Looking at new barrel for my 280AI. Below is what I am thinking. I just don’t know if it would matter if I went with the 750 or 810.

Preferred barrel ss
22”
5/8-24
Double hex fluting
Looking at a Stockys Carbon M50 for it.

Is one better than the other?
Would one fit better in the stock!
Thanks!

I’ve been very happy with my 2 750 taperless barrels. I probably wouldn’t want anything thicker unless it was a competition type barrel. For a gun I’ll carry, it’s right at the limit for neutral balance at the front action screw with a suppressor.

I don’t have any experience about the fluting on these barrels though.

My .750 shoots lights out. I got a 25”, with a 24oz scope I’m at 9 1/4lbs roughly. The extra weight helps tremendously for longer shots. Can’t imagine a slightly heavier barrel shooting much better. My smith did have to adjust the wood stock for fit. Best wishes, either decision you make will be a good one using preferred barrels.

Same as others I see no need for more then the 750. I have a PVA 22” spiral fluted on my 6CM that shoots lights out and is lighter then my 20” 6.5PRC carbon barrel.

Taperless barrels are extremely easy to fit to a stock. I usually order one with a factory barrel inlet and just open it up with a socket and sand paper to get exactly the fit I want.

It really only matters for what weight you want to hit. Heavier = easier to shoot well, more onerous to carry.
And in the world of heavy scopes and lightweight carbon fiber stocks, heavy barrels also make the rifle awkwardly muzzle-heavy with longer barrels or bipods, etc mounted up front.

My .280ai was built with a very light CF stock and a fairly heavy barrel (Bart 3b). It's an absolute pain to carry with a regular rifle sling. Add a can to any rifle and that just gets worse. I'm pretty committed to 16" to 18" for anything I do in the future, and the lightest contour I can get and still have 5x8" threads. If I lose anything in the accuracy department, so be it.
