70 vs 80lb Bow

Beastmode...10 lbs in weight on a Hoyt is roughly a loss of 23 fps while Mathews is around 21 fps and Elite 19 fps. Those are numbers off the 2014 bows 70-->60 pounds.

I asked because on the energy 35 page it says deduct 2-3 fps for 60 lb peak weight.... I guess im not seeing the 19 fps on that page....

You are deducting 2-3 fps from the Ibo rated speed on elites. the e35 is rated 330fps with an ibo arrow(350 grain) and 30" draw @70lbs so at 60lbs and 30" with an ibo arrow(300 grain) it's only a 327 fps bow.

That's incorrect, ibo is ibo, as long as your using an ibo arrow at 60 it should still shoot ibo. If you shoot a bow at 60,70,80 or whatever if you use a 5 grain per pound arrow it should shoot at or near its ibo.

Edit: I stand corrected. I don't know if I've ever seen that. I wonder if it is because of the inefficiency of the bow?

If you can shoot it accurately go for it. Just remember if you plan on selling a bow later on, it'll be hard because only a small percentage shoot 80lbs plus.

I used to shoot 74-75lbs when I was younger with fingers, but now currently shoot 65lbs.

It's not just elite. All or most 2 track binary cam bow are the same from what I ave been told by someone much more knowledgeable than me.

I wonder why that is? Because in theory it shouldn't happen. If you go to 80 do you gain 2-3 FPS? Interesting stuff.

In my youth all I shot was 80 lbs. I had another friend who had he same heavy draw bow. The other archers at the 3D shoots did not like the higher lb bows. As he had one pin out to 50 yards. That one pin killed a lot of elk. You just have to do pushups every day and keep the strength workout. Like others have said it takes raw strength but holy cow it sure makes shooting easy.

I have a 80# Factor turbo, I have went back and forth on the 80# bows ..But I do see the advantage down range when shoot the heavier bows . I think it all depends on the bow and what's comfortable. I may be the minority, but I shoot axis 340's and see non existent tuning problems and still get great speed and overall great arrow weight..

Having been in the archery buisness the biggest issue I seen with high poundage bow was the guys who do it just to be macho. It was actually quite comical at times. However if you are honest with yourself and comfortable drawing it under all actual hunting conditions then it's just a personal preferance and not a thing wrong with that..

Last year I shot a spyder turbo at 84lbs for everything...hunting 3d etc..This year will be spyder 34 at 84-86 I love my fmj 300's with a 502g finish weight. With ate ST I was putting out 102lbs of KE

This is spot on. For me drawing was never an issue, letting down on the other hand was a bastard. Although it was a pse omen, so that could have been the issue also. I still shoot it sometimes but man if you creep it's gone.

my friend shoots some bowtech (dont know the model) at 80+ lbs. he is 6'4" tall and built like a lean superhero. he shoot max DL as well. his arrows look fast..you couldnt see it (an arrow) wobble if you tried.

he buries his arrows into those stacked carpet range targets..i cant even yank them out at the short yardages.. i quit trying.

i grimace when he shoots at my crappy broadhead target..it wont be long for this world if he keeps hammering at the Block.

me..i pull 70ish easy..i'm good with that. kudos you you heavy hitters..must be nice.

Do you 80# guys shoot leagues? I'm on the verge of a new set of strings and at that time I will max out my 70# Spyder Turbo. Right now it's tapped out at 68#. I tell you, after 100 arrows I'm kind of glad I'm done for the night. My second to last bow was an 80# UltraTec Spiral X. I had a hard time tuning it past 73# with 300 spine shafts. Tune charts called for 340 spine but it liked 300s. Targets was another issue-pass through it, OSB and concrete eats up arrows.
