175 Eld-xWhat bullet/weight?
I used 175 ELD-x and retumbo and H1000 with my savage ultralight. With all the development the best groups and ES were with the retumbo by far. But you know how all barrels are a little different. I sold mine due to not liking the savage action. I opted for a Tikka 7prc build from @unknownmunitions. I will have to start over, just wanted you to know what i expierienced. I am happy to share the details if you want. Thanks to everyone who already contributed.
My 7prc (Savage Ultralight, 22in Proof) should be here next week and start playing soon.
This will be an elk rifle with some range time sprinkled in.
I got some samples from subMOAshooting:
175 ELD-X
175 ABLR
180 VLD Hunts
Excited to start developing!
What charge and speed of retumbo did you settle on before you sold the savage? You will like the tikkaI used 175 ELD-x and retumbo and H1000 with my savage ultralight. You get complete burn with the 570? I'm finally gonna load some this week got 560,565,RL23 an RL26 I wanna try. I was leaning towards something faster with the short barrel an each powder I'm gonna try large rifle match an magnum match primersWent out today and played with N570 in mine with an 18” barrel.
Max charge resulted in 2820fps with a SD of 4.7 and a sub 3/4” group.
I added some pictures and info here.
As a fellow lefty I agree! My 20 couple year old model 11 is a better action than my recent 110s they shoot but machine work not as quality had to do a little work to them. I'm gonna see how I like my xlr chassis for my Tikka when it gets here. Think the prc will get it to as there's all but no options for 110 Long Action left hand. Seen Ultradyne make a nice looking reasonable one for the short action left hand. I wanted a cheaper gun since I knew I was chopping to 18 inches. That would be great if you can share!
I agree, the action is the weakest part on those savages. I put a pure precision stock on it, timney trigger but bolt is still a little sloppy.
Unfortunately, I shoot left handed so options are pretty limited for factory options.
Fortunately, all my savages have been shooters. I have only shot hornady precision hunter with this one so far. Best group was under .4inches and all were under 1. Totally fine with factory ammo.
Excited to start reloading though.
I didn’t notice any unburnt powder left behind in the suppressor, but according to GRT I’m around 94% burned. You get complete burn with the 570? First time loading for this short of a barrel so I'm assuming I'm going in the right direction. My thought is maybe more burn with the magnums. I know in my 22 creedmoor I'd get 20fps more with large rifle over small rifle. Idk how large rifle an magnum wills compare I'm still kinda green in the reloading game lol. RL26 probably be last one I try I only got 2lbs an may cry when I crack it open I know it's around 57p burn rate.I didn’t notice any unburnt powder left behind in the suppressor, but according to GRT I’m around 94% burned.
I don’t disagree with your logic though on using something quicker for a more complete burn. Post your results and let us know how it goes!

This is a year old and maybe you posted it and I missed it but what did you get for speed out of your 7 PRC +P and with what bullet powder combo? Shawn built me a 7 Blaser mag +P a few years ago and they're nearly a twin to the 7 PRC so I'm curious how they compared. I'm getting 3100 w/180 Berger and 68.5gr RL26 215M primer. I've played with 69 and slightly over which kicked it well above 3100 but it definitely likes the 68.5 load the best. I'm using a 26in Hart barrel.Jake(UM) and I are building two 7 PRC +Ps to shoot in the Nightforce ELR Match in June.
Ive got 1 more load set to test before i 100% commit but my load is looking like 70.2g retumbo, ADG brass, 175 Eld-X, Fed215M, 1/2" moa at 100 and 500 so far. 2869 out of a 20" barrell. 60 thou jump from lands.Fed 215
175 ELD-X
70.1 grains Retumbo
2952
2.650 CBTO
5 shots 59F not windy
Peterson brass second firing
SD 3
ES 5
Found using lab radar. 5 rounds is good enough for me to load up 30 and do a true test. But those 5 were all touching making 1 hole. For what it is worth. I never did get to the 30 round test.
