I bet H1000 and Reloder 26 if you can find them. if you’re going to run light weight minis then h4350 will probably get it done!
Same thing in the 6.5prc with the 156, slow speeds. I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone finding a cartridge that powder has done well in compared to other powders.I have tried it in a 300 Rum, 300 PRC, 28N and a 300 Terminator. It’s slooooow.
Also curious on updates. Sounds like h1000 being slow is common. N570 is appealing other than the barrel life. Rl26 isn't as temp stable....so are guys just going n570 and planning on losing a little barrel life? Guess I'm not even sure what barrel life would be with n570, maybe it's not even a concern. I think I'm going to forgo the +p for now and see what kind of velocity I can get from 180s and a 20 inch tube. If I can get 2800, I think I'm happy with that.Following up on this to see if anybody has some validated data comparing various powders.
I’m looking to shoot 175/180gr weight class in my 18” barrel and have found fantastic accuracy with h1000, but man is it slow.
I’ve got a ton of n570 I’m considering using as well as retumbo. Berger shows n570 to generate the best velocity but I’m pretty sure their data is quickload generated and not actual.
Anybody have real world comparisons to share?
I am getting 2620 with an 18” and 180 hybrids @ 67 grains H1000 in ADG. That said performance has been great. Low SD, consistent accuracy, good terminal performance out to 400 yards (so far). Also curious on updates. Sounds like h1000 being slow is common. N570 is appealing other than the barrel life. What primer did you use and how high did you go before pressure signs? I got a Tikka I recently built with a 22” Proof prefit and I’m getting ready to test some loads this weekend. I’ll be using ADG brass, 180gr Hybrids, H1000 and Federal 215 primers. Almost all of the data I can find used Hornady brass so just trying to determine where max might be. I’ll definitely be working up but just curious what your experience was.I am getting 2620 with an 18” and 180 hybrids @ 67 grains H1000 in ADG. That said performance has been great. Planning to play with n570 and/or retumbo but my free time has been limited lately.
CCI 250. I never finished working up to max. It shot really well at 67gr and was getting too booked up to do additional load testing before the season so I left it alone. What primer did you use and how high did you go before pressure signs? Looks like I have plenty of room to go up. Thanks for sharingHere’s what I got from my range trip today. I attempted to do a latter test from 63.5gr to 70.5gr in .5gr increments. Unfortunately my magnetos battery was low and would not give velocities but half way through a guy showed up with an extra 9V in his bag so I was able to get some numbers at the tail end. Here’s the specs
Tikka action
22” Proof prefit
H1000 powder
Berger 180gr Hybrid
Fed 215 primer
Virgin 7PRC ADG brass
3.335” COAL (Tikka mag length with just a hair to spare. This was 2.600” CBTO which put me about .07” off the lands)
No velocities for 63.5gr through 66.5gr
67gr 2778fps
67.5gr 2775fps
68gr 2809fps
68.5gr 2858fps
69gr 2854fps
69.5gr 2892fps
70gr 2948fps
70.5gr 2984fps
I didn’t see any typical pressure signs at any point but as alway work up yourself in your rifle. Going back tomorrow to explore that flat spot between 68.5gr and 69gr.
Hi Bfish… what charge weight did you settle on with h1k??? I saw a good node at 67I’ve got a pile of h1000 and Berger 175 elite hunters and hoping for good results.
See above post #31. That was the most accurate in initial work up that I used for hunting this fall. Will fine tune it next spring/summer with once fired brass and sped up barrel.Hi Bfish… what charge weight did you settle on with h1k??? I saw a good node at 67
Why not try n165, N170, or RL23? RL23 is very temp stable, N165 and N170 should be pretty stable will get you just a tick off RL26 or n570 velocity, and all (esp n165) are cooler burning powders that will give extended barrel life. For the heavies, I’d personally go n170 or RL26 if H1K or Retumbo don’t perform. Also curious on updates. Sounds like h1000 being slow is common. N570 is appealing other than the barrel life. What bullet/weight?Been working up a load in my 7 PRC. Ive gotten a couple 1/4" groups at 100 with Retumbo and Reloader26. Gun is a Tikka action with a 20" Proof Carbon barrel in a Xlr Industries Chassis. Working up to find pressure and then deciding where I want to fine tune a load. Started showing pressure signs with 26 at 68.1g of powder. No pressure with Retumbo yet. Ive got 2 more loads to try out tonight. I have more data if anyone is interested. Hornady brass and Fed215M primers
1/4 moa with 69g of Retumbo at 2770
1/4 moa with 69.5g Retumbo at 2815
.190 group with 67g of Reloader26 at 2845
1/4 moa with 67.5g Reloader26 at 2873 low SD
