Then why not just go 6.5prc? Less punishing than both of the others and holds its own in drift with 156 or 147.
Do it! Great round :)

I have both and like both.

I just get more warm fuzzies with a .284 vs. a .264 - and I totally get that some feel better with a .308. That's why there are options.

At the end of the day, shoot what makes ya happy, gives you confidence, and meets your performance expectations.

Edit to add that for me, the 7 was the goldilocks of performance, range, and recoil - 6.5 is great, but for elk at the range I want to have warm fuzzies at, doesn't give them to me - a .300 would, so does the 7 - so I went with the lower recoil option that has arguably as good, if not better, ballistics at the ranges I'm interested in :)

Yep, Hornady is notoriously slow I agree... But it was the most apples to apples comparison I could do.

I’m shooting a 215 Berger over 160fps faster than they are showing for the 212eldx and it’s not even a hot load 🤷.

But options are nice

Hornady is weird... for my 7, their eld-x has pressure signs maybe 1 out of 5, but is ~100 FPS slower then box... the Federal eld-x (same exact bullet) performs to box specs without pressure signs... I have no doubt you are getting better performance than their factory ammo!

I am a big believer in using enough gun. Not every shot is perfect in the real world. Some people are very concerned about recoil. Others are not.
What's enough gun? That's what is being debated... there's proof here that .223 is enough... my point is that for ~20% increase in recoil, I'm not interested because ballistics are close enough to each other to not matter (some loads are better in the 7 and some in the 300).

I have had some wildcat 7s along the way (7/338 NMi) running 195 bergers at 3340...that I have every confidence will take down anything in N America. I also believe in hitting an animal hard - with the biggest bullet I can within reason (not shooting an antelope doe with a 245 berger LOL) although you could.

More bullet = more of everything required to kill

I guess what I was more asking was if a person in the lower 48 could only buy one rifle to hunt with, with all the advancements we have had over the past 10-15 years, do we automatically have to go to a 30? Or will a 6.5 or 7 do since now we are running way bigger bullets faster in those calibers than we ever have

Federal never released a 215 .308 cal TA...New this year is the 300prc with a 210gr Terminal Ascent .663 G1 .341 G7 @2850fps

7prc
170gr Terminal Ascent
G1 .645 G7 .325
2950fps
@500yds Drop -43.4", Wind(10mph) 12.8", 2262fps, 1930ftlbs

300prc
210gr Terminal Ascent
G1 .663 G7 .341
2850fps
@500yds Drop -46.8, Wind(10mph) 13.1, 2193fps, 2243ftlbs

Not arguing with you at all just providing actual TA differences with the 210gr .308 cal...which imo no animal is going to know the difference
No animal know the diff: agree
On Midway 300 PRC TA is 215 grain.

I wasn't even entertaining 300 PRC. LOL someone asked about it. Too much recoil for me. I have a 300 WM and I'm good with that.
