I pulled some search results but haven’t seen much in the last 18 months or so, and I know there’s some new options. What are opinions on manufacturing brands 7prc for a hunting application? I’m not brand loyal, it sounds like tikka, browning, and Bergara are a few of the front runners from what I’ve seen.

A few things to consider:
- primary used for elk/mule deer hunting applications
- looking at ranges from 100-700yds based on the terrain I primarily hunt
- I would like a threaded barrel, will be running a US reaper can
- I’ll anticipate shooting factory ammo
- I value accuracy/reliability over reduced weight
- I’d like to stay in the $1000-$1500 range but am willing to go up a bit for the right setup
- I’ve also considered a base model tikka + Rokstok as an option

I currently shoot a 300 win mag for this application but it doesn’t have a threaded barrel. I’m not reall happy with the accuracy performance as well as the stock, and would rather keep that rifle as a loaner versus than start modifying to get it where I want. I’m not sold on the swap from the 300wm to 7prc, it’s been a productive round for me but it looks like the 7 prc would do everything I want in a lower recoil package.

I think you’d be happy with the 7prc. I just bought one and the recoil is very manageable. I wanted 1 rifle that could kind of do it all and that’s what I landed on. I went with Seekins.

I would recommend a Browning. I have both a Browning and a tikka in 7 PRC. The Browning is a discontinued (for the new generation to replace it ie. New paint job) rifle with a 24 inch barrel. Every ammo I have shot through it has shot sub MOA 5 shot groups and with an eldx I can shoot half moa 10 round groups, pushing 3015 fps from a 24 inch barrel. With the tikka I have struggled with accuracy as well as weird velocity swings. I finally found a load that shoots almost acceptably (sub 1.5 moa) but is anemic at best. From a 22 inch barrel I am shooting a 175 ABLR at 2780 or so. I also enjoy shooting the Browning better. It feels better and recoils less.

for ~$400 more you can get a Seekins

As far as production, weatherby might be a decent option too.

Tikka might be your easy button though.

Say you bumped up to the 2k price point. I had a fierce 7prc I would 1000% buy again. Great gun. Tack driver. Only reason I don’t have it is I really wanted a spotter so traded it. (I know price point is a little above but my only personal experience in 7prc)

I'd either be putting a Tikka in another stock or getting a Seekins PH3. I might even lean PH3 since Tikka is being weird about higher pressure ammo and that's where things are headed.

Dont overlook Sig Cross Sawtooth Magnum. Also if you are not in a rush build tour own is a reality these days. You will spend more in the end most likely but you will have exact what you want. Thats where I am right now. Nobody makes the folding chassis, barrel and barrel length etc.. I want so Ill be building but def take a look at Seekins and Sig. Ive taken some long range classes thru Razorback Tactical and they have each and a Tikka in the rental fleet for students and all are reliable tack drivers

Take the rifles you're interested in and get sand, dirt snow and debris in the action and trigger and see if it'll still function. The Tikka definitely will. Rem clones, not so much.

Where I hunt in north central Montana there's a lot of fine moon dust blowing around. That grit made my rem clone go click on several hunts. Now I own two Tikkas.

My Sig Cross seems to do ok. Though I'd like to run it through a week of abuse with Form to see how it actually does.
