Have a '22 F250 with the 7.3l on order since April, hoping it comes in soon. Have had a '19 with the 6.2 and thought it lacked power when towing 15k. I don't tow that much everyday, but hoping this is an improvement. Will be selling my 06 Duramax when it comes in. Also hearing no difference in fuel mileage so what do you have to lose?

Question for you guys who you have 7.3 how is the power at altitude. Most of my driving is between 6-10k So not sure how this is holding up with it , not being a turbo. When I'm hauling. It's usually less than 6k pounds.

I went with the 6.8L and 4:30 gearing. The 6.8 has a little less power than the 7.3 but the way it's matched to the tranny and gearing I'm very happy. I live above 7000ft and do all my towing between 5 and 8000 ft. With the 10 speed transmission behind these modern V8 engines there is no problem handling loads up to 12,000 lb. Towing my 6k camper or a 3 horse trailer loaded full is not a problem. Of coarse you cannot overcome physics at altitude but that's were gearing and leveraging the engines torque is critical for a naturally aspirated V8 gasser. I put alot of value on payload and stability with a horse trailer therefore a 3/4 ton truck suites my needs better than a half ton. 15 to 16 mpg on hwy at 70 mph. Fords powertrain programming is excellent. If you're a guy that has to run hard when towing well above the speed limit then by all means go with a diesel. Plenty of youtube videos on the 7.3l towing.

I have a 21' 7.3 with 4.30 gearing. I made the switch to gas after 3 diesel trucks and I wont be going back to a diesel unless I need to tow over 18k. I live at 5,500 and tow 6-10,000. This summer I towed 14k through wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Oregon passes and never needed more power or wished for the power of a diesel.

My trailer is ~6500lb (but also aerodynamically a brick), with the 7.3L and 10speed and 3.73 rear end and the 34" tires (black package) I don't have issues towing over the passes here like the Eisenhower (IE the ike gauntlet if you watch those reviews). Most of the time it takes 4th gear and its just a question of how many rpms I want to turn versus the speed I climb. I loose speed slowly in 5th gear.

The factory programming for towing in cruise sucks, it drops down too many gears and spikes the RPMs needlessly high. If I am towing in cruise I put it into manual mode and choose the gear to run in and adjust as needed as road slope changes. Similarly I can engine brake pretty effectively down hills, it'll turn the engine 4-5k though on steep stuff just as an FYI.

There are people in both camps for sure. Some don't want any modifications while others don't want their exhaust fed back through the engine. Also a clogged Def system runs about $8,000. To each their own but I keep the def system and the dealerships have had no problems trading them in as they can put it right back on.

Now if its a truck on a 8" lift with huge tires and a stage 5 delete that's city limit princess, then that's a hard pass by me. Those guys dont treat them well and the turbos and trannies are made for the extra power.

If its a truck that was well taken care of with just a stage 1 delete to just remove the def system then that is a bulletproof engine in my opinion and should run a very long time. The other problem with deleted trucks depends on if they do emissions testing where you live. In that case a deleted truck would not be a good option.

If you cant delete the diesel then the 7.3 makes more sense to me in the long run.
My neighbor could not trade his deleted f250 in. He didn't even do the tune. It was a older truck, maybe 2008 ish. He ended up finding another dealership that bought it outright. So I think some will, some won't
