if one was looking for reliable exits and a blend of eldm type, early fragmentation internal damage with a good chance of an exit, would the HPBT be the logical starting point in the ~105gr load? I’ve had good success with the eldm from 22cm to 6.5prc but have had virtually no blood trails on heart/lung shots and my natural aiming point is not a CNS shot. (top of the heart/lung area)

just ordered a 21” 6prc barrel done up with a manson 6-6.5mm prc .100fb reamer so I believe the 100-105gr would be a logical starting point.

Dang, I have had kinda so-so leaning towards “poor” results with the 105 HPBT out of a 6 Creed starting at 3k. Small sample size of 5ish thin skinned animals but 2 memorable ones were a doe antelope at 405, that entered behind her shoulder and bullet was recovered down by the tenderloin (she was broadside so it somehow made a 90* turn) and a bighorn ram at 330 yards that I hit about 1/3rd of the way through the rib cage walking broadside at 330 yards. That one didn’t exit either but he did die quickly.

Of course it’s hard to complain about bullet performance on dead animals, but I did expect exits in those instances. I’d still hunt deer, sheep, and antelope with that bullet but I would probably look elsewhere for an elk load.

bullet performance on dead critters is still data. We’re all here because we want to make sure we have all of the information necessary to make an informed decision before we put it into play in the field.

Indeed, I guess I’m just saying sometimes it’s easy to feel like you’re picking fly shit out of pepper when you’re talking dead animals and bullet performance, but then again it’s hard to collect data from ones that didn’t die!

In my new 6 Creed I will be focusing more on the 108 ELDM as I really like the way the M’s perform on game. The HPBT is a great low cost bullet though… really nice to have them around.

i’m with ya. Killed ~15 big game this season with 22cm in eldm/eldx but the hamster wheel’s always spinning. Always a better way to improve on wind bracket/ etc. while minimizing muzzle jump and maximizing terminal performance.

In the 22 Creed, any reason to not stick with the 88 ELDM? I was hoping to start and end there with load dev for a 22-250 Tikka build…

Ok, here's mine. Tikka with factory everything except barrel. Unknown Munitions replaced the factory 270 WSM barrel with this 24" factory contour copy 1:7.5" twist, 6-groove Ace barrel. This is my chosen load to start with compared to a handloaded SAAMI .243 Win. Both used Peterson brass. The .243 has a 103gr Hornady ELD-X and the 6 PRC has a 108gr Elite Hunter at .010" off the lands. The .243 is like .046" off the lands.

OAL on the 6 PRC is 2.920". Just barely too long to use the factory supplied mag/bolt stop. I'll have to change to a long action bolt stop and aftermarket magazine. The load is compressed with LOTS of Ramshot LRT. I'll divulge charge once I know it's safe. Magnum worked best for me in my parent 6.5 PRC, so I thought a slower powder was in order reducing bore diameter 2 calibers. The appropriate amount of Magnum did not fill the case quite enough, and I couldn't get enough Grand in the case, which has replaced Magnum it looks like. LRT is slower than both, so it required more of it to achieve the same pressure/velocity. This has been covered before in this thread and most believe I'm WAY too slow in my powder selection, but I think it worth mentioning Unknown Munitions tested this barreled action with 115gr DTACs over N570! I'm right there in the wheelhouse. We'll see how it goes. I can single feed until all the parts get here.

I'm also using a 215 Fed GM primer.

If you were using ADG, it may have made a difference there, too. I'm using Peterson. I had to go a bit smaller on the final forming neck bushing size on the Peterson brass vs the Nosler brass I tried initially. That means the Peterson isn't as thick as the Nosler.

Actually, no worries. I need to find nominal performance anyway. I will simply reduce charge a few grains and shoot a 1-shot ladder untilI reach pressure incrementally.

Yes 58gr. was a top charge in Lapua brass.

It isn’t hard to find bullet that behaves similarly to the 180gr ELD-M in tissue; as the 180gr ELD-M isn’t optimized (maximized) in 7mm for wound channel size.

What is not optimized about 180eldm? What bullet would you consider to be optimized for 7mm (prc velocity range).

Width of wound. When I stated “optimized” I meant largest possible wound while still penetrating deep enough to reach vitals. The ELD-M’s do not produce as large of wounds as possible, especially at lower impact velocities. The AMAX’s were better in that regard.

There isn’t a maximized bullet for larger 7mm’s currently, though the 160gr TMK is my preference of what is. The 180gr ELD-M is good too of course.

The Woodleigh Weldcore 175 would be near perfect except that it's not a super-high BC bullets like the others mentioned. I wouldn't think the 175 Partition would be too far off either. These are made for deep penetration and maximum expansion. Not so much the most extreme range. Not sure how they'd perform in a 7 PRC, but do superbly in .280 AI and .284 Win. The 160gr Partition was horrible in the 1 load I tried in my PRC. The 175 ELD-Xs were stellar (for sheer accuracy). Depends on how far you want to hunt. The NP and WW 175s are no slouches on BC, but not nearly as good as more pointy bullets with higher beveled boattails.
