What powders are you willing to shoot to achieve those speeds?

109 ELDM goes 3350fps with N570
In a 26” barrel. It goes about 3220 in a 26” barrel with H1000.

That info could help dictate your barrel length
any powder that’s available, I enjoy the build as much as I do the end result. I’m open to any and all suggestions.

For those of you that have already built rifles, if you were to start over, would you chose the following?

•109 eldm vs 108 Berger EH (others?)
•18-20-22” (will be surpressed 100%)
•ideal overall weight to spot shots?
•alternative to rokstok on an r700 action? (availability concerns)

The goal is to have a rifle that shoots 3100-3250fps with a great wind bracket for shots in the 500yd range.

yes, I understand a 22cm/6cm can accomplish this. Got em both, don’t give a shit, wanna scratch the itch for a fire-breathing short action 6mm dragon. I have a .540 bolt face and my smith a a 6-6.5prc reamer.

Thanks!
I have a 20" 6prc running 112s at 3150 w/ H1000. It's built on a McMillan Mtn Tracker LR, which is near rokstok clone but has integrated arca in front of mag well, and is lighter than a rokstok by 4-5oz if you get the carbon shell patterns(27.5oz bedded) the womans rifle has this. Panted finish will be around 31oz bedded as that's where mine landed.

I think 20" is about right for these rifles, every inch does give free velocity headroom, at the sacrifice of maneuverability. I have a 24" 6saum that is quite a bit faster than my 20" 6prc, like 200-220fps with same bullets/powder. The Saum does hold 3-4 more grains of powder, and it could be a barrel to barrel difference. After this 6prc is done, it'll be replaced with a 20" 6saum tube.

Shoot for a rifle weight of 6.8-7.2#, keep glass sub 26oz, use light but solid rings like Nightforce or UM. Once you add a suppressor, that's basically +9-14oz depending on can, qd mount, wrap what have you, then throw a bipod on, or not. All my short 6cm, 22cm, 6prc rifles land about 10.2-10.5# with the gunwerks bipod(lite bipod). Very shootable and easy to spot shots. I've always found that a 10#+ rig is pretty easy to shoot, depending on the cartridge.

sounds close to my gut insticts. 20” feels right for portability and velocity. (imo 24” with a can is a broomstick and 18” is so usable)

It will more than likely be fitted with a 30oz 3.5-15nxs (30oz) and PRI rings. I’ve got a hoard of suppressor weighing between 9-16oz and feel comfortable walking all day with a 10-11lb rig. (excluding spartan bipod)

im comfortable jumping a small bit of weight in exchange for shootability but im a relatively small human and 13lbs on the shoulder is 13lbs. My current favorite stock is a grayboe phoenix 2 and it will be in the running for staying on this rifle once it’s rebarreled from 6.5prc to 6 prc.

Solid list of choices, idk on the stock tho had a gen1 phoenix and the flex in it was so bad, I sold it 3 weeks after buying, hopefully they're better 2nd gen.

can’t comment on the gen 1 but the ergo’s felt good on this one.

I sort of have a rifle built. Just got a notice my barreled action will be delivered tomorrow. Unknown called a week or so ago and said they put it in a stock for testing before sending it out. Just guesswork on their part with the load they said, but got 3250 with 115 DTACs running N570 in 24" 7.5 twist barrel. Didn't give me a charge weight, but it was max. Said he had a very faint ejector mark. Tikka actions are not robust enough to really push hard. He thinks it would go faster with slightly faster powder, but doesn't think N568, StaBall HD, or Grand will do it. Said maybe N565 MIGHT. I'm thinking Magnum and RL 26 might be decent options, and maybe even LRT depending on how much I can get in the case. I realize LRT isn't faster. Retumbo should give excellent accuracy, though probably not blazing speed. He didn't think my left over 8133 would help, either. Should have picked up that N517 when I had the chance a few years back!

Incidentally, I intend to run 108 Elite Hunters from mine. That's why he was leaning towards a slightly faster powder. I may wind up running StaBall HD and calling it good regardless of speed, as long as it's at least 3200. He seemed to think I should easily reach 3275 with the N570, but I'd prefer running another powder just because of its reputation for burning barrels. In an already decidedly overbore cartridge, I don't need it to be a flame thrower.
