6mm GT chamber question

Would CCI #41 (Mil Spec 5.56) primers work? The description says it's the same cup thickness and compound as the SR magnums. Don't see a lot of 450's available. I haven't been to my local Cabela's to see if they have any in stock.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t, i don’t think the “magnum” part is even necessary on the 450s the thicker cup just helps the issue you’re having.

I don’t think it’s particularly unique to the 6GT, i can’t see how it would be, i think people just typically use magnums in the creedmoor case size because of the capacity so you don’t see it as commonly.

A quick Google search mentions that the anvil design is different and that the quality control isn't as strict with the NATO primers. Should be good enough to confirm they work in my rifle.

450s, BR4, #41, or rem 7.5 should all help with resistance to piercing. They've all seemed to be in pretty good stock at local stores in recent times.

I'm pretty limited here in SE WI. Got a Cabela's close by. Next place that might carry primers is an hour away.
Where in SE WI are you located, roughly. Fleet Farm, Sportsmans, Recob, elkhorngunbarrel, Smitty's, Midwestern Shooter's Supply, Titan Reloading are a few places to check in SE WI.

Try working up to a load that works in your gun instead of book load or something others are using. As others have mentioned COAL is irrelevant except fitting magazines. I prefer to seat a bullet in an empty case and slowly seat it deeper until my bolt falls closed (firing pin removed). This get me a very accurate and consistent CBTO.

I'm up in Ozaukee Co. Didn't know Titan had powder/primers. Midwestern Shooters Supply is about an hour away. Longer to Sportsman's. Never heard of Recob or Smitty's.

I stopped at Cabela's in Richfield last night. Bought all they had of the CCI 450's (3x 100 packs) and a couple of the Winchester #41 5.56mm 100 packs.

I picked up my rifle from the gunsmith on Saturday. They never got around to looking at it. I had loaded up 20 rounds with the CCI 450's (2 had CCI 400's), 105gr BTHP and 34.6gr H4350. They all went BANG and didn't have any pierced primers. 13 were shot without the suppressor, 7 with. I noticed some sticky bolt lift and a few cases had ejector marks. Velocity didn't change much - 2736 without suppressor, 2744 with. All the shoulders moved about .003. So, I would say I'm making progress. I'm going to load some up with Varget and Shooters World Match. See how those go.

No direct experience myself but I've read the alpha brass is super hard around the case web and doesn't grip the chamber as well on virgin firing which shows as increased bolt thrust, sticky bolt lift. Possible that might be a factor with your sticky bolt lift if you're on virgin firing.

At this point all I've got is virgin Alpha brass. Planning on loading up all 200 that I have just to get one firing under their belts. Thanks for the heads up. I haven't heard that about Alpha. Bolt lift isn't horrible but it's noticeable. I think I may have a squeaky tight chamber, too.
