So I have these hunting rifles:

2x 30-06
2x 308
1x 270 win
1x 30-30 Win
1x 223 1-7 Twist AR-15

I’m wanting a light recoiling round to hunt deer with on my property in Kentucky. I’ve settled on the 6mm creed shooting 108 ELD-Murders. My property is unique as you can see 1,000 yards in every direction (you’d have to see the property to understand, it’s an old strip mine up in the mountains). I watched an huge 10 pointer walk away from me at 550 last year. After reading the 6mm/243 thread here, it’s pretty much convinced me.

The Ruger American Gen 2 seems to be the only factory option that meets my criteria without going custom but I have read horror stories with people having feeding issues which is no good where i hunt. I’m wanting the gun to be sub 7lbs before my optic (3-9 Trijicon Accupoint with Mil dot reticle). What are the odds tikka comes out with a 6mm creed next shot show in the stainless lite or should I just risk the Gen 2 Ruger? Custom really isn’t an option financially for me and I don’t want to rebarrel any of the current rifles I have. TIA. Trying to stay under 800 dollars for the rifle. I also do not reload so a 1-8 twist tikka isn’t what I want.

Also considered the 6mm arc howa mini , but would really love to stick w the 6 creed.

Seems like you already know the answer, not much besides the RA Gen 2 fits your criteria.

I have one in 6CM - got it this spring. I have about 60-80 rounds through it. I have not had feeding issues (maybe one failure to extract? 0 or 1 double feed), but the bolt occasionally is rough to run.

When I google it, it seems most people who have sent malfunctioning Gen 2’s to Ruger have had their issues resolved.

If you’re at all concerned, going with a fast twist Tikka in 243 would be a great option, and you can shoot factory loads of the 95 GR Ballistic tips- I believe Winchester and Nosler both have loads with those bullets and they’re reported to work well in the 6mm / 243 thread. I believe there are a few other bullet options beyond that as well.

$800 is going to be tough, but a 1-8” twist Tikka 243win can be rechambered to 6cm. That is by far the best option. The Americans- while some like them, consistently have feed/function issues that I’ve seen.

JMHO...tikka probably won't do a 6 creed next year...maybe the year after...or the year after...LOL....it has been commercially available since 2017 and they haven't yet. The 7mmPRC came out in 2022...and they are making it....soooo yeah...

Ruger gen 1 or gen 2 really are the only ones out there. I have a gen 1 with the aics mags...feeds fine...

I know these aren’t on your list of options, but given your hunting conditions I’d go one of two ways.

6.5 Creedmoor in a Tikka shooting 140/143/147. If you want a Tikka.

22 ARC in a GEN2 shooting 75/88. If you want a RA.

IMO.

Why 22 ARC over 6 creed?

Less recoil and cheaper ammo are the two most significant factors for me.
Both of which are pretty important when practicing for a killing shot at distance.

A 75 ELDM has .2 more drop and .1 more drift (10 MPH) at 550 than a 108 ELDM (assuming both are 2900 MV).
Not a real significant difference at that distance.

75 ELDM Black is $23. 108 ELDM is $34.
For the same result at 550.

And for clarification I’m not against the 6 Creed. I just really like the 22 ARC. IMO.

Why 22 ARC over 6 creed?
For me, the recoil difference is substantially lower and the ammo is $10 to $15 or more lower for the 22 ARC than the same bullet line in 6CM (when bought online). The 108 ELDM from the 6CM only gets about 40 yards further to 1800 fps than the 22 ARC with the 88 ELDM in my rifles.

Does savage not have any of their offerings in 6 creed? I feel like if savage offers a cartridge, they offer it in every flavor they can. Savages are light and always seem to shoot.

They already exist. They just aren’t available yet.

I’d wait 20 years for Tikka 6 Creed over buying a Ruger American haha.

I think you’ll be surprised that the Tikka 6 Creed isn’t that far off.

And to add to the above… The 6 Creeds that exist have all been the new ACE models and not the regular lites, so, hopefully they regular lite and stainless lite aren’t far behind.

OP mentioned the next Shot Show in his original post.
You think it will be less than a year before a 6 Creed Tikka is introduced?

They are already in the field.

It’s Sako… They may wait for a big splash like a SHOT show, or they may just go ahead and start shipping once enough production is on hand on Finland.

My guess is the latter, and we’ll see them on shelves by hunting season.
