6mm Arc bolt gun with 95 lrx, which temp stable powder?

Hornady data only lists varget for temp stable, barnes lists zero temp stable powders, Sierra lists 8208 which could be promising. 22 inch howa mini, would be nice to get 2900 fps at that's over 2k fps to 450 yards. 2850 would be over 2k to 420 yards so that's fine too but faster is always better for copper. There's a ton of powders that should work that don't have any data so has anyone used any of these on 90-95 grain bullets in 6 arc? Staball match, h4895, n130, n140, n150 or ? Ive run most of these in GRT with mixed results, they don't really seem to line up with what i've seen others loading at but who knows.

Define temp stable within your parameters?

I think temp stability, while it can matter, is also a bit overblown.

Varget is never a bad choice when applicable.

I have good luck with Varget using the 95gr LRX. It is a little compressed, but no need for a dropper tube.

I just worked up until I saw pressure signs, the dropped down a half of a grain. It’s probably still a little hot, but it shoots so well I haven’t messed with it.

You didn’t ask but 95 LRX were disappointing to me at 6 Creed velocities. I’d definitely be exploring other mono options like Hammer bullets if you must shoot monos.

Wound channels from a LRX @ 2K fps is less than desirable.

Have you seen this thread on here?

Looks like 8208 or maybe leverevolution could be good options.

Lever gives good speed, but poor temp stability.

8208 seems to shoot pretty well, but it seems to work better for heavier bullets. I’ve only tested it with fairly mild loads, I’ll be curious to see if it gets better at higher pressures with the lighter bullets.

Which hammers are good in 6mm? this rifle is for relatively small west coast blacktail deer so I don't need it to be crazy but better is better. I do have to shoot monos I would happily choose lead.

Season here is september-october so it could be 35-100 degrees. Varget is topping out way lower than I would like, I would just run cfe223 over varget and easily get 200 fps more. But I'd rather have some temp stability if only just for having consistent DOPE

I did see that it's just lacking data, but I think I will just grab some 8208 and staball match and see what I can get. Staball 6.5 has been pretty good for me for 22 arc and 6 gt, just as accurate and similar SDs as h4350.

I was about to say the same thing. While very accurate for me the 95 lrx in a 6 creed was the slowest killing bullet I have ever seen. We recovered everything but they all just kept trying to breathe. I really like the hbc hammer it has been drt for the kids in 6 creed.

what's realistic impact velocity for those hammers?

Been extremely pleased with 88gr hammer hunter, 90gr Tipped hammer hunter and the new 89gr HBC.

That HBC has a crazy BC, if it's anywhere near that in real life that will be perfect. what impact velocities have you used these at? The calculator is saying Im over 2k out to 500 yards which is nuts for a 6 arc.

Yeah...its a bit small of a case for varget really. But alot of people still run it.

Others to consider...8208, pp2000MR, rl10x, rl ts11, N140, N540,N550, A2520.

I personally would keep a safety factor of 200fps above what any mono manufacturer states in smaller calibers. My son shot 2 elk this year with the 6 creedmoor 1 with a 103eldx and one with 89 hbc.
The bull at 350yds took 3 103eldx (lung) before it stopped trying to get up. Impact velocity 2400ish.
The cow at 480yds took 1 89hbc (hit close side leg) drt and it hardly kicked. Impact velocity 2300 even.
Its very small sample he will continue to shoot the 89 until I see a reason to stop.
Here is the 3 103eldx entrance slight qtr away.

Her is the close sholder/leg bone of 89hbc broadside shot. No exits for any of the shots.20251228_143111.jpg

that's awesome, running the numbers that 89 at 5k ft elevation will be at 2200 fps at 450 yards. That's plenty for me. I just ordered the HBCs, thanks for the info I always like to see real world performance. It's wild the 6 creedmoor isn't more popular in factory hunting rifles. I may pick up one of the tikkas in 243 that are 1:8" twist

Benchmark
XBR 8208
H4895
Varget
Staball Match

One of those should work well for you.

My results in a 20" 6 ARC Howa Barrel

95gr Bullets:
-XBR 8208 ~ 2780 fps
-Varget & Staball Match ~ 2650 fps
-H4895 ~ 2700 fps
-Benchmark ~ 2685 fps
