6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

Have a .270 win I love but these threads have me itching to rebarrel to 25 or 6 creed. I’m leaning towards a 20” 25 creed throwing 134 eldm’s right now - can anyone convince me the 6 creed is the better choice for mulies and elk?

My first thought is the 6 will have more factory ammo and less recoil with sufficient ballistics and terminal effectiveness out very far (even if you can game better numbers with a 25 cal). I personally would go 6 or 6.5 even though I think 25 is cool and interesting.

Less recoil, flatter shooting, and further terminal range with the 116 TMK in a 6 creed. The only area 25 creed and a 134 ELDM wins is wind deflection.

I hunted with a rebarreled tikka in 6.5 PRC the last few years and just put together a 6 creed for this upcoming hunting season. I wish I would've jumped straight to 6 creed, but I'm slowly embracing match bullets and small cartridges. 300 WM to 6.5 PRC was at least a good initial move. I won't go any lower than 6mm due to CO and WY elk minimum requirements.

Not a reloader so essentially comes down to the 108 eldm v the 134 eldm for me. I’m in a similar boat as you on the match bullet front, I just moved from a terminal ascent to the 147 eldm in my 6.5 prc this past year. Reading through the piles of threads here finally sold me.

I like the higher BC’s of the .25’s personally given I think wind deflection is the harder call over dialing for distance in the field. But on the other hand, the ability to spot shots easier with the 6mm is what has me split…

6 ARC calling your name…

Honestly, a 6 ARC would probably have met all my needs, but for some reason, I like to tell myself I need a cartridge with an effective range of 700 yards for that relaxed, prone, no wind scenario on an elk I can't get any closer to that has never happened.

I waffled hard between 6 GT, 6 Creed, and 6 PRC when ordering a pre-fit. I just didn't want to deal with bushing or machining a tikka bolt for the ARC. I'm at least shooting about 500 rounds a year now, so I'll have an opportunity to change again in 3 years...

In my experience, a 7 mph wind gun versus an 8 mph wind gun isn't going to be noticed by most hunters/field shooters. I definitely don't notice with my current wind calling and field shooting skill levels. I'd make that trade for a 20% reduction in recoil any day.
