6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

21 days. Hunts in 3 states. 10 kills.

The 6 Creed got a much deserved detailing and “cleaning”.

Bolt pulled and wiped clean. Firing pin assembly inspected and cleaned. Lightly oiled the bolt.

Chamber and throat blasted out with brake clean and scrubbed.

Blood prints and grime cleaned off the stock. Used a very light bristle brush and some water/baby soap. Got everything pretty much off.

Scope body cleaned and glass dusted off and then cleaned with alcohol wipes.

Supressor removed and dumped free of carbon and air compressor used to blow clean. This is the US Reaper 6.5 in orange for those wondering.

See @Formidilosus you can kill stuff and still keep your rifles looking nice 😜

Sorry @huntnful nothing went down the barrel other than bullets 🤷‍♂️

She bad 😍. But just imagine how many more animals you would have killed with a clean barrel… (approximately 0) 🥲

Daughters first deer 108 eld-m from a 1-8 tikka impact velocity around 2575. Shot was a little high took out 2 ribs on the entry and bullet went up through the spine with no exit. 24gr of bullet was against the off side hide.

Thanks guys. Was trying to get some info before the sale ends? Are the premiers worth the upgrade since it has a level?

Sorry not trying to derail the thread , trying to get my .243 up and running.

Old reliable 95 SST.

I put together a Tikka 243 for a buddy, for him and his nephews to use this fall. I had an old factory hornady lot that shoots very well and it was hammering in that Tikka D18 barrel so I gave them the rest of the lot.

They came out this summer for multiple field days and re-learned shooting (bad fundamentals) with an identical setup 223. They learned new fundamentals, shooting positions, learning to call wind in terrain, etc. They also shot the 243 in the hunting terrain they’d be shooting in with simulated hunting shot scenarios.

They went from missing most shots past 250ish yards to being very consistent with hits out to the max effective range of the 243 with 95 SSTs (500ish yards). These boys put in work in the desert heat this summer!

I just got a report and photos of two coues bucks down with the 243 and 95 SSTs.

One kill at 410 yards and one kill at 430 yards. A spike buck and a nice 3x3 with eye guards.

❤️

Convenced my dad that small calibers get the job done with modern bullets and hes a believer now! He had to switch to something lighter than his 30-06 due a recently installed pacemaker and being left handed.

90gn ELD-X Precision Hunter factory load out of 24" vanguard 1:10 twist running 3077fps verified at muzzle (3150 on box).

160 yd slightly quartering large bodied mule deer. Entered midway back between ribs, destroying liver, little lung, and caught in far hide just rear of should. Deer went 10yds and expired quickly due to hydroshock. Much less meet loss than look in photos, just little trimming at entry ribs and flank.

38.7gn recovered for 43% retention. Killed very quickly; only complaint would be lack of blood trail had one been needed but placement is equally to blame as performance. 20251023_101522.jpg20251023_142159.jpg20251023_151059.jpg20251023_151102.jpg20251023_151109.jpg20251023_151133.jpg20251108_191024.jpg
