6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

Would the terminal performance be noticeably different from a 103gr ELD-X if the rifle can stabilize it?
The 103 ELDX is very effective. Generally favorable over 108 ELDM as pure killing bullet but both are fantastic. I’ll kill with both again this year from 6 Creeds.

Throwing some 115 Bergers in the mix for a friend that works at Berger and wants some data. I have a 16” 7 twist 6 creed getting chambered by Karl right now for this purpose. Should be fun.

In general. In both “FBI spec” gel, “FBI spec gel” with animal mediums placed in front (hides/bones), and in actual dead animals… Once you go below the 143 ELDX and 147 ELDM the results seem to just slightly favor the X variants in consistency. Particularly on reduced loads simulated the lower impact velocities (2,000 FPS and below).

Going to 143 ELDX and 147 ELDM and above, they become nearly indistinguishable as the damage is quite vast and difficult for me to decipher between them as I’m not an expert.

What is your FB with the 115's? What's your goal for speed with the 115's? What powder are you gonna use?

The 103 Xs tend to be a bit more reliable on creating a wound that is ideal for killing. Think something along the lines of a lemon shape where the bullet goes in with a nice taper and begins expanding rapidly, creating a very wide wound through most of the medium before tapering off and exiting or lodging in hide, bone, etc.

The Ms can create very similar wounds, but the bullets below the 147 in what I’ve seen round out a bit more, more often, and can be more shallow (you don’t get the final taper and elongation). This can be explosive and deadly but isn’t as consistent in killing as the previously mentioned in what I’ve seen. I’ve also seen instances or some narrower wounds than ideal with the 88 Ms and 108 Ms which is head scratching.

All in all, like I said, I’ll still kill with both again this year with confidence.

What is your FB with the 115's?
As close to Saami as possible. Up to smith. If I end up with some throat erosion from the 115s and then switch to 108s or 103s I’m not as worried as most folks are about “jump”.
What's your goal for speed with the 115's?
With the 16” barrel and 4350… I’d probably be tickled with 2700. Maybe closer to 2600?
What powder are you gonna use?
Likely 4350 we shall see.
