6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I shot 3 animals with the 90 grain ELDX last year and was next to a buddy that shot another. All with .243s

Yardages were from 25 to 300 yds. All but one were instant light switches with exits. The one that didn't was mentioned in this thread and is still talked about frequently by my hunting crew. We have agreed to chalk it up as a WTF moment and keep shooting them.

Looking forward to more killin' and more data points this year, although I'll also be shooting the 87 grain hunting VLDs which get no love in this thread but were my go-to prior to the 90s. They are wicked fast in a 243...like 3300 fps fast.

Planning on killing at least one elk with them this year

What twist rate are your rifles?

It’s sierra, so when it’s comes out it still won’t be available. I wish hornady would lead the charge on a heavy 6mm bullet, At least they could support it.

They would support it, but they aren’t interested in a heavier 6mm, and they won’t optimize it terminally.
When it does come out I hope they can support it better than the 95 tmk. Optimized or not, it does nobody any good if a guy can’t count on the next 1000 bullets 3-6 months down the road.

Recently went hog hunting for the first time, friends I went with all had magnums as hogs have “armor plated” shoulders. I took my 243 as I thought this was hoopla. Shot one small/medium sized pig in the shoulder that was DRT. Then shot this boar facing too almost square in the chest. Ran 20-30yds.

*Was bigger than this picture makes him out to be.*….. happens a lot
