Anyone else notice weatherby low key just updated their twist for the 240 weatherby on some of their rifles? It’s supposed to be 1:7.5
That’s pretty cool, may be my next toy. Would really surpass the 6mm Creedmoor
They also updated some of the .243

It is tipped but its not a TMK. Different guts more explosive.

Obviously you have a direct line to them, do you have any insight as to why it wouldn’t be a TMK. I was sure hoping this would be the year we would see a heavy 6mm TMK. I’m feeling a bit let down.

I don't have a direct line with them. It's what they told me at the shot. If I had a direct line, there would be 120 TMKs

Wouldn’t that be way too fast? The 100 gr loads are around 3200 FPS, that’s an RPM over 307,000.

240wby 64g case capacity. It'll only be a 100-150fps faster than middle 6creed. Prc holds 68gr. There's only 175-200fps between my 20in prc and 20in creed. 7.5tw is perfect in my opinion.

Anything over 3120 breaks the 300,000 threshold in a 7.5 twist so it just seems like a weird move by weatherby. All their current factory loads are in the 3300-3500 range and they don’t offer any 20 inch barrels in it that I know of so they’ll all be well over that threshold.

The 6 UM is achieving more velocity than the 240 weatherby and I don’t hear any complaints coming from 6 UM users concerning rpm.

The barrel twist combined with the velocity is the issue. I’m sure most arnt running the 6 UM with a 1:7.5 And even then most won’t have problems but the risk of blowing bullets is pretty high for a company to build factory rifles in that twist combined with that chambering.

A pointed 107smk has better bc, shorter bearing, very accurate and extremely consistent inside lot #s. I think it's a better bullet than the 108 eldm in most mannerisms but terminal.
I find that very interesting. I haven’t used the 107 for about 20 years but it was stellar then and it wasn’t pointed.
I assume you’re talking about factory pointed like the 80s are now?

I’m about to start work with a new 6 BR and can’t get enough Bergers to really make it worthwhile, maybe I should start with the 107 Sierra

Sorry but one more question, how do they handle going transonic, we shoot at a mile about four times a year, and the rivalry is pretty intense

150, 142, 110, 107, 95, 90, idk how many other smk now come pointed from sierra. The 107smk shoots great, put it 20/30 off, go shoot lil groups. I use the higher bc stuff for matches, but the 107smk is my primary practice bullet as 3-4 years ago they were 175-185/500ct box. I have a lot on the shelf.

Got a yard pass for a last minute hunt in Alabama for end of season.

Mixed bag with the 6ARC gas gun and 95tmk’s.

EDIT: forgot velocities for the below, all impact velocities would be 2550-2650fps.

Deer one: 100-120lb deer, rushed first shot with unsteady rest. Poor performance on my part. Unsure but the deer did not act hit. Second shot I would never have taken through brush if I hadn’t already potentially wounded the deer. About 75 yards through brush but I saw a window. Deer quartering away, dropped at the shot. I was laying prone for this shot on top of a ridge and I could see the deer flopping but no follow up too thick. Slipped down ridge to get closer for another shot. The deer started to get much more active and was getting its hind legs under it. It paused for a split second looking at me and I attempted a head shot from about 20 yards. The deer rocked back at the shot, and stood up and trotted Off. I saw a gaping hole in his neck, one high shoulder, and it was missing the top of its skull. Trailed it almost 500 yards before losing blood. By the end the deer was clearly walking . Into a thicket and through it into swamp. We gridded as best we could. I’m still thoroughly confused. All I can assume is that the second shot upset on brush in front of deer and hit high shoulder/stunned the deer. I’m 100% confident of the gaping wounds I saw, but once the deer got on its feet it had adrenaline to get moving. It was a crappy disaster that I still don’t get.

Deer two: 120lb deer, 25 yards quarter to, point of shoulder. Bang flop dead before it hit the ground. Entrance wound

Shoulder removed on entrance

No exit, one small bullet fragment made it through chest cavity and stopped just outside ribs. Heart was pulled and was intact with no fragments (I know because we ate it 3 hours later). Spine was crunchy under backstraps, assumption is most of the bullet landed in spine. Some bone shards pulling heart out. Lungs liquified.

Small fragment offside

Deer three: 80-90lb deer, 75 yards moving right to left at good pace across opening. Was prepared and timed shot. Hit mid body just below spine. Bang flop.

Entrance

Exit of some of the bullet same height slightly further back under spine but destroyed it.

Heart was recovered intact, back of lungs mush by feel, everything from back of lungs back was a mess.

The first deer really was one of the weirdest shot sequences I’ve seen hunting. No idea how the deer survived what I saw.

That said, the next two shots were excellent performance. One tenderloin was lost, a small amount of the back of one shoulder, and two chunks of backstrap I cut out. I’m guessing less than half a pound of meat loss.

Happy to get a last minute hunt to try the TMK’s.

Thanks for reporting everything, including that rodeo on the first deer. Failures are important to report if we want a complete picture of bullet performance.
