6GT?

I am seeking a cartridge that has better barrel life than the 6 creed that also has more velocity than the 6 arc, I have dive down the rabbit hole of both of these cartridges and I’ve been looking for a middle ground… the 6gt appears like it potentially could fill this role. It sounds like barrel life should be around 2500rnds and it can pretty easily retain 1800fps out 6-700 yds which is what I am looking for. Does anybody have any experience with this cartridge?

Very popular PRS competition cartridge. Lots of load data, etc. on Snipers Hide or PRS social media. "What the Pros Use" website should also have lots of information. Initially only available through GA Precision but now factory Hornady ammo (109 ELDMs) available.

Specifically designed to run in "regular" 308 AICS magazines - its overall length fits between 6CM and the 6BR/BRA/Dasher (and 6ARC).

Barrel life should be 2000+ and maybe 2500 rounds. Great brass available so will be easy to reload.

You should look at the 6br. There's nothing easier to tune, great barrel life and you'll be swinging a gun made for 600yd shots.

Is this a newer cartridge? Seems like the hornady factory 109g ammo is the only stuff available at this point in time. I plan on reloading but I prefer factory ammo being available as well

It is recently "official" - it was a "wildcat" developed for PRS by GA Precision (+ others). Just recently Hornady released to widespread market. It is a specialty target cartridge - not sure if it will ever be released in a "hunting" form although I suspect that a 109ELDM would work well on deer and similar. Hornady factory loaded ammo with 109 ELDMs is available.

I’ve transitioned away from 6 creed after running a pair of 6GT’s the last few years. It feeds well and I don’t see any meaningful difference in performance. My handloads are a duplicate of the hornady factory ammo and at my elevation I’m 1,800fps to 1,000 yards. Shot a decent large bodied 3x3 mule deer last fall with my lightweight hunting 6GT and was very satisfied.

I built one on a SA 700 as a lightweight mule deer rifle. 105-108's over H4350 do 2900 ish from a 24" 7.5T and recoil is nil. Fantastic brass from Lapua/Alpha sure helps. 109 factory did 2950 from my tube as an FYI. It's like a 6 Creed with a touch less speed and a ton less gay...

How did that factory ammo preform? After a little research it sounds like it’s pretty inconsistent/ very hot

Yeah I'd agree with that. It shot roughly 1.4MOA for 10rds with an ES of over 20. Handloads do half that with single digit ES.

First time I've heard of a GT being less gay than uh well anything (disclaimer: I have an MPA 6GT on order lol)

I’ll have to dig back through my data but it shot extremely well for me. ~1/2moa and fairly low SD. GAP was nice enough to send me 200 rounds when they shipped my rifle otherwise I’d have exclusively run handloads. In my opinion it’s just the right amount of gay 1745424362679.jpeg

How much are you really going to shoot it? 6 Creed is a clear improvement when it comes to factory ammo options and possibly an improvement mag feeding from standard mags. The attributes that attract me to 6 GT is that it's less overbore so likely a little less temperamental. Barrel life is nice but most of us get a lot more life and time out of a barrel than we imagine when making cartridge choices. Factory ammo and some more wiggle room to get velocity without stepping on it in an 18" barrel make the creed a good fit for that application IMO.

Honestly I don’t shoot as much as I would like, in hunting rifles I typically am shooting 500rnds a year, my 223 bolt gun is 1500-2000 a year. I do plan on shooting more in the near future however. Seems like the 6 creed may be the ticket due to the surplus in factory ammo and fps with a shorter barrel. What type of barrel life does a 6 creed get with factory loads?

Did you have any issues blanking primers with your 700 firing pin?

I’ve got a prefit 6 GT barrel on order that’s going on a rem700 SA and I’ve read about potentially needing to turn the firing pin down and bushing the bolt.
