I dont know if this is the right forum. But i found a skull and would like to clean it up just so it is clean and doesnt smell. I removed all of the dried visible skin had it in the garage. It was good untilt he weather warmed and now has an smell to it.

The last one i found i just set it out in the sun in back yard but a small animal chewed on it some so would rather not do it with this one.

I was thinking of soaking it in bleach water but then i read NOT to do that. Supposedly the bleach will ruin it.

Whats the right way to clean things without messing them up?

I have always simmered my fresh ones for an hour with a scoop of oxyclean detergent. Seems to work pretty well.

Good idea. This ine was old, sitting out when i found it. I would need to make a BIG tub to simmer it.

If i soaked it in something cold it MIGHT fit in a large rubber made container.

I bought a big galvanized tub at D&B supply. I think they are for horses and it was fairly inexpensive. They have different sizes and the one I bought fit an elk skull. I was able to simmer water outside over a burner no problem.
