6 UM Reloading Thread

Let us know what you end up with. With a new throat, that looked achievable with my 24" Bartlein numbers. After chopping to 20" and 320 rounds down the tube, I just shot 62 grains with a 115 DTAC and it's only at 3000 fps. Very low pressure though, I'm going to push that up quite a bit and see what it will do.
I’m sure it’ll be a couple months before I can update, I can’t remember what my gunsmiths lead time was. I’ll make sure to post up where I land though.

Anyone used cci 250’s instead of the federal primers? I’ve got a few thousand of the cci’s but my barrel is about 10 weeks out and was gonna just casually keep looking for the Federal primers and some n570 locally to keep from paying hazmat and shipping.

I’m using them. They work fine.

I'm using them as well, with good results.

Anyone have any beta for a load with H1000 and 108/109 elds? Have a 19" 6UM30 barrel coming. Hoping for 3200.

Had them up to 3340 in a 22" +P barrel, and almost exactly the same in a 24" with a normal throat. 3200 is going to be asking a lot of a 19" barrel. 3100 is more realistic.
Did you ever try out Retumbo on the 115 DTACs or anything else? I've got plenty of Retumbo and H1000 and am wary of N570.

Never did try Retumbo. When I was experimenting it didn't exist, and now that it does I've sort of settled on either H1000 for barrel life or N570 for velocity. Still not totally settled on that.
H1000 or Retumbo should both work fine for you. Let us know what you settle on.

Have you burned a barrel up with h1000 yet? Considering trying it since I have a fairly fast barrel, 3230 @ 64.5gr n570, where it shoots well. Figure if I can get a few hundred extra rounds of barrel life with the same velocity, why not. How much 1000 are you using?

No, my current barrel has about 350 rounds on it and I'm just now resting H1000. I'm planning to rechamber it back 2" or so this spring. Between now and then I'll try to decide if H1000 is going to be the powder for it.

Im going to try it this week. Ran a pressure scale in .5gr jumps on mine a little while back and got 3357 for one shot at 66.5gr n570, so I’m hoping to get h1000 to 3200-3250 and run it the rest of the barrel. If it doesn’t achieve that, I’m not out much since I have a known good load with 570.

My original load data at the beginning of this thread has some H1000 data up over 3300 in a 24". 3250 should be very doable.

6UM-30 tikka build from UM arrived a while back….i figured I’d go with the published data that UM put out there. No shocker that it was spot on accurate. Multiple 3-shot groups were consistently half inch groups at 100 yards. 5-shot groups were all .7” at 100. I think I could have tightened the 5-shot groups if I waited a bit longer between shots….i only waited maybe 60 seconds between shots. It’s strictly a hunting gun so that accurately is plenty good for me. And the recoil is literally comical….it does have the UM 4 port brake on it but every shot I was able to spot impacts through the scope.

24” barrel, 115 NR coated DTACH, 64g N570, ADG 6UM brass, fed 215M, 60 thou off the lands with a average velocity of 3260.

Very happy with the performance, lack of recoil and ability to spot impacts through scope.

Thought I would report back that I abandoned the “h1000 for barrel life endeavor”. At 62.5 gr out of my 22” proof I was getting ~3275, which was acceptable for me. However , after the second reload I was losing primer pockets. I don’t have a dedicated FF barrel and don’t particularly enjoy the process. Settled on 65gr n570 @ 3291 fps. Furnished a 4” group at 650yds. Resigned to buying a barrel every couple years and Moving on with life lol

Thanks for reporting back, that's very interesting. 62.5 in my barrel is a very mild/slow charge, 64 grains is 3150 at 20" and still fairly mild. My throat is getting pretty long though  Over 400 rounds on the current barrel.
That N570 load should do well for you. Almost every barrel ends up at 66 +/- 1 grain or so.
Hopefully I'll have data from three barrels (two re-chambered and one new) by March or so. Still planning to give H1000 an honest shot, but N570 is the king for the 6 UM.
