6 UM Reloading Thread

Seems like UM has chosen N570 as their most consistent powder for speed with the 6UM……has anyone here experienced better accuracy with a different Powder….?
I’ve got a 6UM -30, had a slightly more accurate load with H1000, but at a 200 fps penalty. With N570 I’m running 64.5 grains at 3266 fps in a 24” barrel and a little better than 0.5 MOA if I wait 5 minutes between rounds.

So wha
I consider it to be the easiest part of the reloading process, especially with a spare fire forming barrel and the Titegroup method. Whether the 100 fps is worth it is up to you, based on barrel length and desired effective range. Play around with the WEZ and decide if it seems significant or not
So, what's up with the different shoulder angles? I haven't paid attention to the 6um developments since I bought a reamer (second version to avoid clickers) and slapped a rifle together.

I've just been doing the 10 gr titegroup in a dedicated barrel for fire forming (using 6.5 SAUM brass). I thought I might buy some actual 6UM brass but see that it states 30 degree shoulder. Is that different than what I have when fire forming ?

The 6UM-30° just allowed people to avoid fire forming. They can get a 6UM-30 reamer and start load dev. I have 2 boxes of 6UM-30 I'll be shooting in my 6um-40° to fire form. I originally started with 6.5 saum brass.

For manufacturing the brass they could either get the 40° shoulder with a 7mm neck requiring necking down. Or 6mm neck and 30° shoulder that only requires loading then fireforming.

UM Opted for the 6mm neck and 30° shoulder.

Since the brass is 6mm-30° UM decided to have reamers made for those who dont need/want the 100fps gain from fireforming to 6mm40 for the OG 6UM

Thanks guys. So whether I buy 6.5 SAUM or 6um30, I'm still fire forming for my "OG" 6UM, right?

Sounds like there is no difference and I should just buy the 6.5 SAUM brass and keep fire forming in the garage..... Or am I missing something?

The ADG headstamped 6UM brass just needs to be loaded and fired. You do not need to neck down anything. 6.5 saum needs to be necked down then loaded. Plus it's not headstamped brass to match your barrel

Yep I'm following. Pay a little extra for brass but I don't have to neck down (still fire form with the tite group to get my 40 degree) and it's head stamped.

Thanks!

I’m currently waiting on a 6UM 40 build from UM, trying to be patient…. Anyone settled on the 108eldm?
I think it would depend on the twist. I've heard Ryan mention that 108 could come apart in a twist tighter than 8 or maybe it was 7.5, as the barrel wears. it does makes sense. Ryan mentioned a new 117-118 bullet with poly tip, coming to market soon. Maybe wait for that one since you are waiting anyway.
