6 UM Reloading Thread

So I went thru and made sure all the primers were seated fully, and pulled bullets to make sure I have a jammed load. Somehow I still have failure to fire on loads that require me to slam the bolt shut, I’m kinda at a loss here.

Jammed loads, tight primers, same lot as the last 50, same powder and charge.

Bolt has only the 50 rounds thru it but I guess that could be it?

I consider it to be the easiest part of the reloading process, especially with a spare fire forming barrel and the Titegroup method. Whether the 100 fps is worth it is up to you, based on barrel length and desired effective range. Play around with the WEZ and decide if it seems significant or not.

I want the turbo on my 6UM:)

From what I can see on my phone in the pictures you posted, there appears to be inconsistent primer strikes.

Not sure if that related to excess headspace, spring drag or just weak spring but that’s where I would I would start looking.

Without a modified case is there a good way to find the lands for FF the brass? Or do you progressively shorten or length till the bolt closes?

has anyone ever tried stuffing the 115 DTAC's deeper to see the results on accuracy? I have a stupid light 6.5 SAUM improved I built in a model 7 action that I'm thinking about rebarreling and interested in a short barrel 6 UM as my lightweight backpack gun but don't know if it would work with the COAL that most are running and am limited to more like 2.83" MAX.

A friend of mine is shooting a .243 and dtacs with a big jump… around .225

Edit.. Its 165

Think it would be worth trying the 6um on my platform and COAL limitation? I love my gun it weighs 6.3 lbs with the z3 on it. just time for a new chambering after 15 years. Currently running 130 accubonds 3180fps and it’s a hammer. But want to run suppressed so 25” barrel needs to go. Other option would be to stick with 6.5 Saum and just shorten the barrel and eat some speed.

Hello. I'm new to the form and purchased a 6UM 40 from a friend who never shot it. 20" Ace, Tikka, 8 twist.

I'm ready to start fire forming but wanted to get feedback on my plan. I have plenty of slow powders like US698, retumbo, BMG and others.

I have some 100 gr game King I don't have a use for other than practice and fire forming so just want to make sure this is a good idea.

Any tips on fire forming are appreciated. I've never done it.

Is N570 as temperature stable as H1000?

Thanks!

(Photo for attention only) But my barrel vise mount is pretty coo.

6 SST would be an option that helps on the COAL front.

Wouldn't be surprised if DTACs shot well at a long jump though. Sorry, have no first hand experience to share.

Basically just jam the bullets .010-.020 and use a mild load of 7828 or H1000 (55-59 gr). Those Game Kings should work fine.
N570 is the undisputed speed king for the 6 UM. It will give you ~100 fps over anything else. Pretty much every 6 UM barrel seems to shoot 66 gr N570 with a coated 115 NR DTAC at .060" off really well.

I think they would be fine. At one point I tested everything from .020 jump to .120 jump and saw exactly zero significant difference in precision.

Is a .272 bushing sufficient for starting load Dev on the 6UM-30. Still waiting on my die but need to order bushing or multiple bushings if need be
