6 PRC reloading

I’m also wondering when Hornady will/would Sami spec the 6PRC. Makes sense for me since they have the 22/6/6.5 creed

Thanks again for the 6um heads up I checked it out but with the cost of reamer and go guage as well as more expensive dies and brass I'll be $1000 cheaper to get set up with 6 prc since my smith already has a reamer so that makes the choice to stick with prc pretty easy.
No problem. I thought the same thing, they definitely want a pretty penny. Maybe we will see some prefits floating around one day.

I think I’m going to reach out to Hornady and probably David Tubb and see what the max rpm’s are for some of these bullets. I just thought it was interesting that a 115 Berger Target at 3,400 fps was under a 1.5 with an 8 twist but a 7 twist would put it at nearly 330k
What were you findings here, ever hear back from Hornady and Tubbs?

I’ve listened to a pile of Hornady podcasts over the last year and I don’t see them ever introducing the 6 PRC to SAAMI. Their ballistician mentioned in one podcast that the 22 creed was one of the most difficult SAAMI introductions they’ve done due to how overbore it is and trying to come up with a twist rate sufficient for legacy and new heavy-for-caliber match bullets.

The same ballistician mentioned in a separate podcast that the 25 PRC was even too overbore for them to introduce, but I could see them changing their tune on that one with all the new 25 cal projectiles.

Good info. I will consider a 6PRC more heavily now… I want my next tikka rifle to be something you can’t just grab off the wall at a sporting goods store

I doubt they will unless a large market grows for it from wildcatters first like it did with 22 creed. There were numerous vendors making 22 creed and 25 creed head stamped brass before Hornady got on board.

I've seen a hornady engineer state that 25-6.5 creed is too overbore. 6-6.5 PRC is more so. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Edit: missed @mlevimadden already basically said the same thing.

It’ll be okay, but .180” would be more optimal. The .180” even works good with the 108 ELD. It’s the Goldilocks FB
What is the reamer spec for the free bore diameter? neck diameter? and lead angle? is the case body corrected for diameter to prevent clickers? It would probably be easier to just post reamer spec sheet. LOL sorry for the long question. Thanks

Idk what the FB diameter is. You’d have to ask PBB. Don’t know leade angle either.

Neck is .279, which is perfect for ADG and Lapua

It is corrected at the .200 line to eliminate clickers.

Thanks for the response. I am just starting down the 6 prc path. I have a bartlien 7.5 26" barrel, and a Win. Mod. 70 CRF 6.5 prc actiion, SAC dies, stocky's stock, lapua brass, plenty of powders and primers, No reamer or bullets. Planning to use 108 to 110 gr. bullets. I haven't decided if I want to chase the lands or go with a long "node" forgiving freebore. I find a lot of info. on everything but reamer design. If I can get good first hand info on a reamer design I will buy one, if not I will most likely rent one, and work on figuring it out my self. Again thank you for your input and to anyone else that can help.
