I’m looking at having a barrel spun up in either 6 prc or 6 saum. I have to get a reamer for my gunsmith no matter which one I choose. Planning a 20 inch barrel.

I have a bunch of new 7 saum brass that would be ideal to use if I did a 6 saum but I don’t want to neck turn and have no idea if that’ll be necessary.

Seems like most people are doing .180 freebore for the heavy bullets.

Any and all input is welcome!

No disagreement here on that. At some point burning through barrels gets old. If you're good with that then I'm happy to sit on the sidelines and watch. haha

Sell the 7saum brass. Buy ADG 6UM30 brass, 6UM30 reamer, 6UM30 GO gauge, and N570 powder from Unknown Munitions. Buy 115gr DTAC nose ring HBN coated bullets from Tubb. Buy a 6mm 1:7.5" twist Osprey Barrel Works barrel from Patriot Valley Arms in whatever contour you want. Take to your gunsmith. Call it a day

62gr N570 in a deep throated 6prc with a 115dtac also goes 3200fps. It's safe load in good weather, but psi signs in not so great conditions.

I was getting it at 41.2 of RL16. I backed it down to 40gns for 2950 because it shot a little tighter there. Hornady has book max at 41.1 so I was pushing it a little bit.
20in 6cm, 2950 is the goods. 18in 2850. These are usually all weather safe loads. That stuff loaded at 60k plus psi levels will bite a guy eventually, I know from personal experience. A guy can do as they wish, but what's 100fps? Not worth it in my opinion.

Just a question, I love new wildcats but truly why go all through this when the 6 creed in a 20’ barrel gets me 3050 with 109’s. Seems like a lot of work for 150 fps. I’m not hating at all but the 25 saum/prc might make a bit more sense.
I responded to a similar question up above. However I already have a magnum short action, not a standard bolt. That and I already have a 243 that does 2900 with a 100 grain bullet. So the 6 creed wouldn’t offer much from that.

I had an 18" 6PRC put together this year and have been very happy with it. I went the PRC route because I can buy lapua brass essentially anytime and cheaper than 6UM brass (even though nothing about this project was to save money). All I did was neck the brass down in one step, dry tumble to get the lube off, prime, and load. Plus, I'm getting 2,960 FPS w/ 108 eldms and H1000, which means it has a further effective range than what I can responsibly shoot, so I don't need to added speed of the UM.

I did get donuts in my 6 prc. No big deal, just be sure the have a plan to deal work the situation

6UM 30 aka 6saum is bout 100fps faster with 115s than a 6prc, as you can fit another 3.5gr those massive kernels in there.
