6 Dasher thread

Not exactly a hunting mag, but I bought a gray ops Dasher mag a couple months ago. It was hard to stomach the cost but I have to say it is buttery smooth. So smooth that sometimes I have to double check that a round actually chambered. If they made a hunting mag I'd probably buy it.

If a guy wanted to launch some 112 matchburners would it be better to go .130fb? Anyone in here here shot any in a dasher?
When I get home can show you what a 116 looks like in a 120fb.

I’d guess you want the 154 freebore though

Honestly I don’t think the 116 is going to be worth the squeeze in the dasher.

The g7 difference between the 107tmk and the new 116 is around 10 points. If the 107tmk is moving 50-60fps faster than the 116 that bc advantage is gone. The 107tmk has a very short bearing, 30k less than a 105 hybrid. This bullet will be a fast mover.

Plus the tmk upset at lower velocity threshold VS most bullets, with such a minimal bc difference, the faster muzzle velocity is going to extend terminal range.

My dasher is a .104” freebore and shoots 87vmax, 95tmk, 103eldx, and 108eldm all well. All under 2.45” oal length too- which makes the howa mini dasher work well.

I need to measure Up the 107’s to see if they’d fit right. 116’s are definitely going to chew up too much case.

I played around with one of @pods8 (Rugged Stitching) magazines with a GT. The GT required filing the shoulder stops, where the Dasher wouldn't. After that, it fed without malfunction for the next ~50 cycles or so while playing around with it. The GT had some issues feeding from an M+ factory mag, those issues were eliminated with his printed magazine.
If I end up deciding to chamber a Dasher on a Tikka, I'll try his magazines before going to an AICS setup.

Is there a reasonable expectation of 2800 FPS in an 18" barrel with the 116s, or is that asking too much?
That interesting since my GT runs out of the standard M mags just fine. Wonder why there is difference.

Curious how much case it takes up on the dasher even though Im not really a dasher-boi :D

...but it might play nice in a 6mm GT.
Wondered myself but bought the 107s for mine for the time being.

I have a 6GT barrel, 107’s and 116’s on their way. I’ll post my results once everything gets put together.
I think you wont be disappointed with the GT and the 107s. Mine shoots 95s-109s stupid good.

Also seeing different reamer prints for different brass. How do I know which Fl sizing die will work for one or the other?

I’m not a reamer or die expert on dasher but from my research here’s what I did.

Confirmed the smith was using an alpha legacy reamer

Bought alpha brass

Bought a SAC alpha dasher die

I seat with a Wilson inline seater that just says 6 dasher on it.

That combination has worked well. I ended up buying my own reamer from alpha for future barrels just to hopefully keep brass compatibility.

The alpha reamers are designed as no turn neck chambers, if I wasn’t using that I’d atleast make sure the reamer my smith is using is not a reamer that I may have to turn brass with, and also confirm capability with my chosen brass.

All I can really confirm is that all alpha dasher for reamer/brass/die has been awesome.

From my understanding standard dasher sizing dies will work just fine with the alpha chambered dasher but not the other way around.

More recoil, more powder burned, more heat, likely less barrel life. Much shorter track record in regards to accuracy and consistency. To me it’s just another creedmoor, and I have owned all three of the others.

The amount of powder being burned has a lot to do with recoil imo. Even the 22 creedmoor had more felt recoil than my 6 dasher does.

I shot 6 creed for PRS for a few years. It’s a great cartridge but I couldn’t use it as a one rifle to rule them all. I think the 25 would likely fall right there too. I’d need another rifle (223). Then at that point I’m not learning my rifle and ballistics all summer because I’m shooting my 223. That is exactly why I started the dasher experiment last year.

I’m running a GT and 25cm at the moment and agree with all your points and can confirm everything but barrel life as I have not shot out the 25 yet.

I think the GT or dasher are the Goldilocks cartridges of doing it all for the things I want out of a rifle. Great terminal performance at the ranges I hunt, lower recoil to enjoy shooting without getting beat up, decent barrel life and excellent accuracy.
