One drawback I hear people say about straight 243 is having to trim all the time. Do you really need to trim that much?
Depends how short you trim. I trim every other load . For an off the shelf die, get a forster. It sizes less than the other ones like rcbs, Hornady, Lee. Then you can also have them hone the neck to whatever size you want so it reduces case growth even more. I like my forster FL die a lot

The case may grown past the "trim length" and have something you could trim off at each shot but there is a max case length that probably is going to take more than one shot to go from the trim length to max length. You can reload brass that is in between without trimming.

Don't understand all this trimming people talk about having to do on a regular or semi regular basis. I typically go through and trim all the necks to a uniformed length then rarely ever have to trim again.

I sometimes wonder if a lot of people are just measuring the overall length of the case and basing the need to trim off of that.

If you haven't seen what a .243AI shooting 106 Grain Clinch River VLD's at over 3340 does to varmints, you haven't lived.

I think folks are using the trim to length as their basis all the time, IE if there is something to trim they trim it.

I think you're implying trim to your gun vs the max case length? That also is an option but just using the max length as the other end of the window and then trim back to trim length when the max is exceeded shouldn't result in tons of trimming.

Also remembering I have 9lb of imr 4451 which as I recall is pretty similar to h4350. Anybody have any experience with it in 6 creed and 108’s?

Those are enticing. I was thinking of trying the 108 Berger Elite Hunters. Bergers just seem to be easier to get to shoot for me
The 109s shoot lights out for me out of my 6GT. They didn’t shoot good at first but you need to jump them. I called Hornady and they said to try 30-40 thou off and then they shot great.

The jump might be the issue. I’ll have to give that a try

I trim to spec trim length. I trim when they grow to or over max length. That's every other load for 243 for me

I had several 243 AI years back. I always ended up shooting 105 AMaxes or 105 BTHP over 7828ssc for about 3100-3150. I never had to trim cases and they were super accurate rigs. Super cool round and one of my favorites. They were rhe 6 creed before it was cool… 😀

That is cranking, what sort of load are you using

For those who have to trim all the time your dies are over working your brass, try neck sizing, it works particularly well with the 243

Should work well- just a touch bulkier than h4350 if I recall, though it’s been a few years since I ran out.

Might give it a try. Also eyeballing the stash of imr 4451 I have. It did well in my 6.5 creedmoor years ago
