Hey all, new to the forums here. I was recently thinking about shopping for a 6mm rifle but I received a 6.5cm rifle for free. Thinking about putting a scope and break on it and using it for this up coming season. ( I’ve previously hunted with a 30-06) my question for the experts is what would be my best option for ammo???
Hornady 143gr Eld-X
Hornady 140/147gr Eld-M
Sierra Game changer 140gr TGK
Sig 130gr sierra TGK (cheapest option)
Also, I hunt muleys / elk

There aren't too many rifles that don't shoot ELDM/X well. In fact when one of the top custom rifle shops in the country have an accuracy issue, they immediately check the gun with ELDMs to rule out it being a bad barrel.

I know I’ll receive some heat for this suggestion, but my son and I have killed a boatload of big game animals with 6.5 CMs using Hornaday American Whitetail ammo.
It’s cheap, it’s accurate, it penetrates well, and gives a tremendous wound channel.
I wouldn’t hesitate to use it on any hoofed animal in NA.

Pick which ever shoots best and party on.

One of my 6.5 creeds prefers 130 Eldm. The other shoots the 140 class bullets better. I prefer the 140/143. I tinkered with 147s I just wasn’t happy with the results I got. They were slow out of my rifles.

I haven’t yet tinkered with with the 130 class Sierra but soon enough.

I doubt it matters one way or the other.

Use the ammo that is most accurate because shot placement > minimal difference in those loads.

I have killed whitetails with both the 143g ELD-X and the 140g TGK. I am not an expert, the wounds looked similar and the animals were equally dead.

If I was just buying factory ammo, I’d probably just get that hornady precision hunter 143 eldx and call it good.

For hand loading, 130g and 140g accubond, 140 and 147 eldm, 143 eldx, 130g tmk (my new favorite) hammer hunter 124g, Barnes 127g LRX are all bullets I’ve had good luck with.
