I spent my entire life believing that bigger animals needed bigger cartridges, until I saw that, up to a point, they very likely don't and I'm still trying to understand why.
This is actually the easiest thing to understand if you don’t have any preconceived bias. Take the weight of an elk- say a large one at 700lbs, and the weight of a 225gr bullet as compared to the elks mass, versus the same elk with a 77gr bullet. If my math was correct, this is the difference-
225gr= 0.00004592
77gr= 0.00001571
You can certainly state that the 225gr is three times more… sure. But those numbers are so laughably little of the elks weight, can you really say that you think there is a massive difference between them?
