Here’s from some testing Short Action put up the other day.

As far as the 130VLD goes the velocity there isn't much to write home about. RL-16 will do that in a std case.

I agree. Seems kind of low to be seeing bolt lift signs if the factory loads are 80kpsi. From what I can figure, GRT shows that load at only around 66kpsi.

Did they share what length barrel they were shooting from cuz if it’s not possible to hit the velocities I’ve seen JVB hitting with the pre-factory stuff on his video I’ll be a bit disappointed. I’d really love to load the new 124fr Apex Afterburners in a suppressed 18” barrel as a dedicated mountain gun and hitting 2950-3050’ would be tough for me to beat on a build like that.

How does this differ from safe practices for standard brass cased ammo?

They didn’t share any barrel or rifle specs when they posted up that clip. From what I could see in GRT , those speeds/powder seemed to align with a 24” barrel.

Clear. But velocity and the mass of the ejecta (bullet + powder) still defines recoil. I doubt the difference in powder weight is sufficient to offset the increase in velocity. I would have said it’s a given that it’ll still recoil more than a standard creedmoor. Maybe less than a PRC, but still more than a creedmoor. In other words, from a performance standpoint id think this is a “low recoiling PRC”, not a “fast creedmoor”.

The recoil is captured in that special high pressure case .

Interesting SAC used 003 neck tension that I'm seeing in their Instagram post. That's far from the 0.0005 to 0.001 people say needs be used to keep the stiff steel case neck from damaging jackets from seating resistance.

That is incredible performance for such a short barrel! I just ordered a couple 18” Proof barrels with 7.5” twist and can’t wait to start playing with reloads on this new case!

Yep, and Im one of them. I love it too, and I’ll clearly benefit from it down the road if any bugs get worked out. This issue I and others are poking at is where its applied in this case, and what functional benefit I get out of that—I dont see any. Others might. ultimately this tech is really interesting and clearly could benefit everyone, and federal has no choice from an adoption perspective to introduce it in a mega-popular cartridge. But the actual real-world benefit is only where an existing cartridge is INSUFFICIENT. This forum has spent many years proving that the existing 6.5cm is plenty sufficient for larger game and at longer range than the vast majority of hunters have any business shooting. So its no surprise that folks who have figured out a 6.5cm is already sufficient arent WOWED by an unproven new tech to “upsize” it.
You have to be a “more is always better” guy, or it has to be applied to a cartridge that is widely considered insufficient, for this to really be exciting. Which is precisely why I said I would be more excited if it was offered in a 6.5grendel. Or a 7.62x39. Or a 6 or 6.5x45 from a 223rem case. Or a… You get the picture. A .308 would be another yawner for me, because for my uses its already plenty sufficient. This cartridge/tech may also be more interesting for folks who shoot copper.

Going from “sufficient” to “more sufficient” is cool, and at that point the tech is “promising” because the actual benefit for most people is theoretical at best. Taking “insufficient” and making it “sufficient” is where it starts getting exciting.

I'd drag out the stack of 270's and pick one to use before I bought a peak rifle. My old as* doesn't shoot over 500 yards anymore and the 270 appears to perform a little better with Superformance sst rounds for hunting.

I didn’t know they were offering the PXT in 6mm! I’ve gone back and forth on my build and which Creedmoor to go with. Finally landed on 6.5 but only because those PXT barrels aren’t offered in 6mm that I could find.

They're not making the 6mm yet, but will be. I'm local to Proof and know a few guys who work there.

I don’t believe this has been addressed, but
just a thought when it comes to other cartridges that could fall into “there might be a few guns that can’t handle 80k psi”:

Seems like the simple fix would just be doing those particular cartridges at a slight lower but still higher pressure, that still provides a meaningful increase over standard performance.

For example: if a cartridge is rated for 55k, the peak case for that is targeting 65k.

Therenin lies the solution for federal to expand application of the technology .

Sure, some will point out that handloaders may have been doing that with brass already, but if the theory holds, peak would allow one to do it more safely and possibly push the performance threshold further.

Maybe in theory, but if the case took all the pressure then they wouldn’t be worried about doing them on older rifles, they also wouldn’t be saying they’re not doing them on larger case heads due to the excessive bolt thrust and lug set back. Hope you’re right though, and from what I’m seeing it’ll all be 308 sized heads.

What I don’t really get yet is I’m told it’ll be the most popular calibers, no belts, no fat cases, from the last 15 years or newer, that rules a lot out other than really the creed that I can think of, I’d think a 308, maybe a 243 but both are old. I think the 556 is already set but imo a 308 makes the most sense and an 06 would be ending to many larger magnums.

I personally think the 6 Dasher or 6 ARC cartridges would be pretty cool to get this tech on and would think either (in a boltgun) would be capable of handling the pressure.
Can you imagine the new 107 TMK at 2950+ fps from 16'' barrel in a Dasher/ARC case!?

Has anyone from federal came out and said these things? I’ve heard the same stuff repeated but don’t know where it actually came from.
