For hunting practice your probably better off shooting one arrow at a time and walking down and pulling, repeat......instead of shooting groups. The first arrow of the day or shooting session is the one that you should count on for how 'accurate' you are for a hunting situation. The next skill I would worry about is shooting that one arrow and then a follow up that is loaded and released as fast as possible while maintaining accuracy. Rabbits and squirrels would make good practice for big gamer hunting as will a good 3D target for practicing arrow placement that will hit vitals at different angles of target position. As mentioned natural obstructions are very good to shoot around. Reinhardt makes a small ball target with a hang loop and a flat spot on the bottom, it is 9" diameter. Take that ball into the woods and toss it/hang it and shoot it...…that is an excellent practice for hunting as it is easily transported and you can go to new spots and not just be a backyard expert/sharpshooter. Also you may get tired of loosing/looking for arrows and focus better on each individual shot.

Depends if we are talking about hunting or target. If you can hit a paper plate at any distance any time then I’d say that’s sufficient for hunting at that distance. If we are talking target then I’d say 1” per 10 would be a good baseline but lots of people shoot better than that all the time. People in world archery comps shooting @50m (54.68yds) shoot sub 5”groups as an average. Those are the best archers in the world though. I hold myself to the standards of the best archers. I am no where near capable of the same consistency/accuracy but it keeps me humble and strive for better every time I shoot and I have seen noticeable improvements in both personal best accuracy at all distances and consistency because of it.

I would call a 6 1/2 inch group acceptable at 50 yards In a hunting senario but Its up to the shooter to determine what is acceptable taking into account the situation. shooting 5 inch groups at a fita face is useless if you can't execute a good shot under pressure and adrenaline.

What would be an acceptable 50 yard group? I seem to be good at 30 yards, much farther then that not so good
My goal is the be able to put all 3 arrows into a irrigation flag at what ever distance I shoot. And irrigation flag is probably 4x3, I am in landscaping so I always have them in my truck. If that is 30 than that’s as far a I will shoot for the year. If that is 80 than there you go. Now I primarily hunt whitetail so I limit my self to a 40 yard max as long as the situation is right. They are infamous for jumping the shot down here in Texas so I won’t attempt a shot past 40.
