5 Reasons to Always Carry Whiskey

I'm assuming you're talking about Jack Daniels? No thanks, I'd rather drink turpentine with a radiator fluid chaser. but I imagine Jack Daniels probably wouldn't be too awfully bad for cleaning out wounds and lighting fires.

As far as Tennessee Whisky goes, I prefer George Dickel no. 12 (the white label). Jack Daniels is ok as in it is drinkable (Gentleman Jack is actually decent), but I would never buy it with my own money. I much prefer bourbon. Irish Whiskey is ok. Scotch is not really my thing, but I'll drink it when somebody really wants me to. Canadian Whisky is incredibly disgusting and shouldn't be allowed to use the word whisky/whiskey to describe it, nor should it be permitted as an exportable product. Its basically a drink for people who don't actually like whiskey, but like to pretend.

Man, there are some picky whiskey drinkers here. I'm a kinda thinkin that if I was beat after a long day of hunting sitting by my fire on a moonlight ridge somewhere near 10,000 feet, I would drink ANY whiskey. By hey, that's me.........

I also use a Nalgene. The only steel I haul into the woods is on the end of my arrows.

Typical rockslide thread extolling the virtues of over priced products that when metabolized results in nothing more than piss. There are fermented and distilled products of various styles and tastes through out the world. To portray ones taste as the only acceptable product is the one reason I never talk beer anymore even though I home brew. In the end whether that over priced and over equipped hunter is standing over the trophy or that bubba out of season is standing over the first doe or cow he sees, the harvest will not know the difference and each hunter will be satisfied with their results in their own mind.

Coming from working at an active Bourbon Distillery. You cant beat a good ole straight KY Bourbon. Especially right out of the barrel. LOL

Here's a good question for you "experts", does a nalgene bottle add any taste to your favorite elixir? I've been looking for a lightweight flask made of metal because the stuff you guys are drinking is actually powerful solvent .

For years I carried my bourbon in a nalgene and I wasn't able to detect any change in taste however, the last couple seasons I've been using one liter platypus bags just because they seem to pack a little easier and they're lighter. I still can't detect any change in taste.

Used soda bottles and one of those little 8oz water bottles for a non hunting over nighter.

The ones I use come from a testing lab and typically are used for environmental sampling & will have nastier shit than ethanol (e.g. nitric acid, methanol, etc.). Besides, the rye is never in there for very long.

I'm particular about the things I carry in the woods. But basically, it boils down to the fact that the last trip I was on I forgot a suitable container for my whiskey and resorted to buying a pint of vodka just to pour it out so I would have an empty pint bottle. And yes I looked they didn't have any light weight plastic pints with whiskey I could drink, they all come in glass. So I bought the cheapest pint available and poured it out. I take crown royal in my pack, the only exception is an occasional Pendleton bottle.
