5 Pin Yardage for Elk

I bought a 3 pin hogg father and a 5 pin hogg father and made two 4 pin sights. I run 20-50 fixed and have the bottom pin for a slider. If im shooting past 50 yards I will most likely have time to move it. If not I probably wont take the shot.

You're right there with him near 500gr and 260fps?? Yet in post one you stated

At 500gr and 260fps the pins are nowhere near "stacked". I shoot 532gr at 289fps and I have lots of room between each pin.....even my 20 and 30. I have 7 pins out to 80, and as much as I consider myself a LR shooter, I have yet to need to use any pin past my 60 for elk.

So, if you want to change things up to shoot farther that's fine. You can also stack pins to shoot beyond your furthest pin.

Holy smokes! How do you get it to shoot so fast? I am guessing a 31" draw and limbs pushing 80lb but maybe low to mid 70s. I unfortunately can only shoot 27.5" DL. Limbs are 70lb limbs at about 72 lbs.

Seems to me it depends on how you shoot off your pins. I gap them on tweener yardage...some guys shoot off the pin, holding it high or low. I like to bore in on the spot I want to hit...vs looking at a different spot than my arrow will hit.

20,30,40 etc....is going to be more pinpoint accurate and better for guys shooting off a pin........

.. I like 25,40,50 etc.....for hunting as its fast and easy to gap with a good view of the animal.

I was off on my grains. I'm shooting 470gr, I brain farted on my broad head weight... I'm shooting 100gr not 125gr. I think my speed is bit faster as well. Forgot to measure it when I was making my adjustments.

As far as my pins being close together, it's just a feeling which is relative. I've notice my eye sight not being as good as it used to be and it's a bit harder with pins being that close.

I understand where you're coming from on shooting distance on elk, every elk Ive killed has been close too. But there's a few I might have been able to kill had I have a 70 yard pin. It's not an everyday shot, but if conditions are right it's completely doable.
