475 Linebaugh/480 Ruger Ammo

Is production coming to an end? I can only find a limited variety from Buffalo Bore and Underwood.

Doubtful that ammunition production is ending. I think Ruger kicked out a run of Super Redhawk 480's fairly recently.

Bigger bore revolver & rifle cartridges are not big sellers in the big picture even in the best of supply times. So it takes its place in the production line. I would also imagine that retailers had rather inventory/stock higher turn over items. Though, it somewhat appears the in demand cartridges' supply is catching up with demand.

I have the same issue when it comes to the 480 Ruger, but I have built up quite a collection of brass for it.

So why did everyone choose 480/475 with all of the available choices of big bores. Also, does anyone care to elaborate their experience (likes/dislikes) in comparison to other big bore calibers

I was a fan of the 475 Linebaugh from Ross Seyfried's writing. I was hooked after shooting one of the earliest Hamilton Bowen's Ruger Bisley conversions.
I have had a Freedom Arms 4-3/4" for many years & also a BFR 6".

The 480 Ruger to me is about as much as I need in North America. I have 480's in double actions & single actions of various barrel lengths. The 400, 410, 420 grain flat point hard cast at 1100-1200 fps are relatively easy to shoot. The Ruger Bisley 4-5/8" in 480 is a handy companion revolver.

The 500 JHR, which I don't have, is another cartridge that I like. But, I am heavily invested in and committed to 475 / 480.

I have a 500 S&W X-Frame, 4" including compensator. A potent cartridge. I do not care for the bulk that is necessary to house it in revolvers.

The combinations of 454 / 45 Colt & 475 / 480 have been my favorites.

Ross Seyfried's writing on big bores is great. I just bought a BFR in 475 Linebaugh with the new Bisley Grip. So far it has proven to be a well built pistol.

There's little or nothing you can't accomplish with a pistol that a .475 hard-cast bullet traveling at 1100-1200 fps won't do. The .480/.475LB is the sweet spot in my opinion after having owned a few .454's and a couple 500 S&W's.

When using reloads, has anyone with a BFR in 475 found a difference in using .475 vs .476 bullets?

Just bought a Freedom Arms 475 Linebaugh model 83 with a 6" barrel also has a 480ruger cylinder ......... I haven't bought factory ammo for anything other than 22's in over 25years .
Rounding up the bullet molds , brass , bullet sizing dies and etc. Is a challenge now days to say the least !!! Mold should be hear Friday, so at least I can cast some bullets this weekend lol
Should have some brass next week and have more back ordered with Starline .
I'm ready for all the reloading /ammo nightmare to end !!! I haven't ever bought a new gun that I didn't have reloading supplies for ...... until now lol.
Enough all ready , it's time to get back to normal !!!!
