Setting up a 45 Cal CVA Accura LRX for my uncle. He’ll be using it for whitetail with no scope or sabot restrictions. Will be shooting BH209. Shots could be close out to 300 yards where he hunts.

Anyone have a similar setup and able to share?

45 cal bullet recommendations would be appreciated. Considering trying Barnes, Fury and Cutting Edge Maximus.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

For whitetails I’d shoot a saboted .40 then. Either a 225 gr Fury or a 195 gr Barnes in a Harvester smooth light blue sabot. With about 100 grV (~80 grW) B$209. That’s a proven load in a couple of my .45s.

I don't have experience with it yet myself, but there are now a few options marketed for the .400 Legend that look like good candidates for .45 cal sabot use. Winchester 215 grain is where I am starting, but there is also a Nosler offering. It seems crazy to me the cost increase when you buy "muzzleloader bullets." You can get the sabots from Harvester and the bullets from wherever you want way cheaper.

That’s great information thank you!

For the fury, is it this .402 star tip 2p I should be looking at in 225 gr? Do you prefer the sabot knurl with this combo?

Thanks that’s an interesting option. The swift a frame in .400 is another intriguing option. I’d be interested if anyone has experience going this route.
