44 Mag Lever

I’m looking to buy a lever action 44. Specifically looking at the new Marlin or Henry, steel, blued. For you folks in the know, why should I pick one over the other? Thanks

I have a Henry in 44 and a new Ruger/Marlin in 357. The Marlin is a nicer built rifle than the Henry. Haven't had any trouble with the Henry and I don't hunt with either. But I think they are in the same ballpark pricewise, so I would give the edge to the Marlin.
I have Skinner sights on the Henry and I am going to do the same on the Marlin.

I have a Rossi 92 .44 mag stainless, Henry Big Boy .357 carbine and a new Ruger made Marlin 1894 in .44 mag. They all have their pluses and minuses. From an accuracy and smoothness perspective, Henry all the way. It also has the best trigger.

From a carry perspective, Rossi 92 all the way.

The new Marlin is the best looking of the bunch. The internals in the receiver are sharp! Don’t put your fingers in there. I haven’t played with it enough to take the place of the others.

I have an '80-ish Marlin and a Henry , both in .44 mag.
I prefer the Marlin as the Henry is really heavy for a LA.

The old Marlins are definitely nice and I would buy one if I could find one for a decent price. The new ones are less money..

Have yet to see a henry that makes me wanna take my wallet out. They all just seem like a knock off of somebody elses rifle.....

Another thought. Local shop had one of the S&W stainless leverguns. As much as I wanted to hate it. That sumbitch almost came home with me. An it still might

I have seen those S&W's.....in a magazine and internet, but don't know much about them. They definitely intrigue me. I would like to handle one. I much prefer walnut and blued, but I do see that S&W now makes that 44 in that configuration, so, we'll see.

I really wanted to dislike it. However...Action was fairly slick, fairly decent sights, They kept the stock narrow and sleek, nice trigger. I really couldnt find much to complain about

In CAS, Henry’s are not recommended. Don’t seem to like to run fast. Marlins can be slicked up to run well and were the rifle of choice until the 1866 and 1872 short stroke kits came out.
I have a Henry 410 and a couple marlins. The marlins are smoother, but I have out some time into them. My main match rifle is a 1894 marlin (Remington) and it took some work to run. The ruger built marlins are much better.

I like the Rossi out of all of them. Had marlin and Henry. Sold both of those and just have the Rossi now.

I'm a dyed in the wool Marlin fanboy. No point in fibbing about it.
My favorite rifle in the world is my little cut-down 336 in .44 mag.

But I've never personally handled a 94 I'd give $50 for

I didn't want to like Rossi. I bought a .357 that was built when Rossi was still Puma & the action was awful. The wood had some kind of tarry black goo coating & the trigger was horrific. Quickly moved it on, but I ended up trading into a newer Rossi 92 in .357.
I learned about slicking up the action & trigger & holy crap! It's a completely different gun.

I still have that same 16" stainless .357 plus a 20" .44 & a 24" octagon barreled .45.

I'd run any of them against my 336 as far as smoothness & triggers go. Accuracy is the same & my god are they nice to carry!
