4 calibers- Minimalist (rifle & pistol)- Change my mind.

12 gauge
AR 223 Wylde
6.5 creedmoor
22LR

I know it's been mentioned not about apocalyptic.... BUT In an apocalyptic scenario you would come across plenty of 308s, 30/06s, 300 win mags as you ruthlessly shoot anything that moves until you're shot or starve to death or die from dysentery. I think starting off you'll want the 12 gauge, 22 lr and an AR 556/223 plus your favorite and most versatile hunting cartridge apocalypse or not. Obviously if you carry frequently this list is missing 9mm. For hunting and survival don't see a handgun being worth the weight if you have an AR.

I went down a similar rabbit hole, tired of all the complication and various cartridges.

Not including heirlooms but just tools
6.5 creed
223
22lr
9mm
12 gauge

I love it

I do still play with others for family rifles and heirlooms, but the component compatibility for the “tools” rocks

What single .22lr gun would everyone look to cover all the use cases?

Obviously some guns will be better suited to different use cases. Just looking for opinion on “if you’re getting one, get this one.”

Ruger 10/22 or marlin 60 will both be classics with parts and availability - tho my favorite .22 in my stable for hunting is my CZ 457 with a dead air mask. Whisper quiet and accurate.

Have all I'll ever really need other than the want one's. My heavy rifle is a 30-06 and will work well on any animal I might hunt world wide. My newest addition to deer rifles is a 260 Rem with a lilja barrel. And really should have another 222 Rem, best shooting cartridge I ever owned. have my shotgun covered with two 28ga SxS's. have two 16's a 20 and a 410 but haven't shot either 16 in years and have never shot the 20ga. For handguns I have two 9mm Semi Autos for carry gun but for fun guns I have a 22 LR semi, 32 long DA and a 38/44 Smith. All I shoot in handguns is cast bullets except in the 22lr.

Realistically 22mag, 5.56, 12 guage and 6.5cm would be my shtf, 9mm is great, but doesn’t offer me much over my 22 mag inside 50 yards. In a pistol or carbine platform. This. Comes from someone who extensively owns and shoots 9mm in pistol and pcc

I am thinning the herd and have come to this opinion if starting from scratch. The 6 and 7 could easily be something else if already heavily invested in something remotely similar. The firearms themselves will come and go but believe this ammo will cover all bases very well and for an entire family.

22 lr
6 arc
7 prc
9 mm

My current rifle list.
308
223
243
22 lr

The 308 is a hold over and not used, but I have two 308 barrels laying around and an old stock of ammo.

The other 3 cover everything in Alaska (except bison give legal requirements), which is the only place I hunt.

If I could only have 2, then 243 and 22 lr. But, a 223 would cover everything if limited to one.

Handguns I have:
45 ACP
44 mag
454
40 S&W

If I had it to do over again, I'd have 9mm and 357 mag. If limited to 1, then 357 mag.

Your list is quite redundant from a need perspective, it is more a trimmed down "wants" list.

Oh, I don’t bird hunt.
You, Sir, are a dirty heathen then, and we cannot be friends.

I reject the premise of this thread and refuse to entertain its inherent limitations. Didnt your financial advisor, or maybe your HS guidance counselor, tell you about the benfits of diversifying your portfolio?
