I know it's been mentioned not about apocalyptic.... BUT In an apocalyptic scenario you would come across plenty of 308s, 30/06s, 300 win mags as you ruthlessly shoot anything that moves until you're shot or starve to death or die from dysentery. I think starting off you'll want the 12 gauge, 22 lr and an AR 556/223 plus your favorite and most versatile hunting cartridge apocalypse or not. Obviously if you carry frequently this list is missing 9mm. For hunting and survival don't see a handgun being worth the weight if you have an AR.

I went down a similar rabbit hole, tired of all the complication and various cartridges.

Not including heirlooms but just tools
6.5 creed
223
22lr
9mm
12 gauge

I love it

I do still play with others for family rifles and heirlooms, but the component compatibility for the “tools” rocks

What single .22lr gun would everyone look to cover all the use cases?

Obviously some guns will be better suited to different use cases. Just looking for opinion on “if you’re getting one, get this one.”

Ruger 10/22 or marlin 60 will both be classics with parts and availability - tho my favorite .22 in my stable for hunting is my CZ 457 with a dead air mask. Whisper quiet and accurate.
