Anyone else think a 38 prc would be a good idea? I currently have a 300 win. Sometimes I wish I had a bit more oomph, but not as much as a 338 Lapua - something like a 338 win mag, with maybe a little more horsepower.

I like that you can mag feed high BC bullets from the PRC series without issues - only downfall to my 300 win is that the magazine smashes the metal tips on the rounds it holds and seats the bullet into the case deeper, essentially making the gun a single shot, which sucks. Spending thousands on a 300 PRC setup to correct that doesn't seem worth it to me.

They are coming out with modern versions of all the other calibers. My fingers are crossed that they do it with a 338. Anyone hear anything? Thoughts?

Thanks!

They are being done by a smith or 2 that has had a reamer designed. Neck up 300prc brass and go. Basically a new era 338/375 Ruger/demon/campfire. Perfect for the 225-250 class bullets

I have a 338prc…

The middle one is it. It’s now in an XLR mag 4.0 chassis

Isn't that bigger than a Lapua?

Similar enough cartridges have been done. The 338-375 Ruger wildcat, and the 33 Nosler. However these have been shown to not come close enough to the 340 Weatherby or 338 RUM to have any meaningful advantage besides efficiency. Meanwhile, trajectory and long range performance of the 300 PRC would exceed those of a 338 PRC. There's just little point to something like a 338 PRC, unless you just want a more efficient way to send 225-250 grain bullets about as fast as a 300 PRC just out to moderate range.

With that said, that is meaningful to me as a hunter in Alaska. I rarely need to shoot beyond 450 yards but I am shooting at larger animals.
