358 Winchester custom rifle build

Prob 300 which is why I want to build a medium action. The medium action will allow for the bullet to be seat further up in the casing.

There are a few videos on Youtube the will paint a better picture.

I was considering buying a Ruger to re-barrel before finding out about the medium action.
Why not just buy the factory ruger in 35 Whelan?

If you really want a 358, just buy the cheapest LH tikka with a std bolt face, pull the barrel and sell it here. Then install your 358 barrel which you can order from whomever. Not CRF or 3 pos safety, but who cares. They work.

This is the way. I did the same because I wanted a .338 Federal. Works great.

300yd? Not exactly the big woods rifle I was thinking then. I’m chasing the 358win but for a 100yd hammer. I guess if 300yds is the expected max range for this rifle and you want to stay with the 35cal I’d be going 35 whelen. Which has double the factory load options and the case capacity I’m assuming you are chasing with the medium action you’ve mentioned.

Either cartridge. Find a left handed Tikka or whatever rifle in 30-06 and rebarrel. Whelen would work and 358win bullets could be loaded long for more room for powder.

I had similar thoughts/goals when I built my .358. I took a Winchester m70 stainless in .243 and sent it to JES to be re-bored and chambered in 358, and cut to 20". No need to worry about seating bullets out further, it can shoot 300 yards just fine as is (I've killed deer with mine out to 275). If you desire more than a standard length 358 can give, just go 35 when for the easy button.
If doing it over, I would just stick with 308. Less recoil, flatter shooting, easier to source both ammo and components, and honestly kills the same. Maybe even better, since there is a plethora of quality .308 bullets, compared to .358 bullets. Anyone want to buy a m70 in 358? Lol
