.308 or 6.5 PRC for Deer in Colorado

6.5 PRC would be a great option if you want a dual purpose gun. I re-barreled my 300 Win Mag to a 7 PRC. For the purpose of doing some ELR matches and still maintaining a rifle for hunting. Obviously you don't need to shoot long range at an animal but you can certainly shoot the 6.5 PRC 300 yards just the same as your 308. The 308 however is going to be difficult to work with past 800-900 yards. If I were in your shoes, I would re-barrel your Tikka to 6.5 PRC you wont lose any capability the .308 had.
I appreciate your response and advice!

This is a smoking deal on a stainless T3x in 6.5 prc. I picked up a prc last fall when my trusty .270 had some issues 2 weeks before 2nd rifle and have not been disappointed (aside from pricier ammo). The 130 terminal ascent is impressive out to 500+. That said, I punched my CO mule deer tag at 50 yards last fall, go figure.
Wow, smoking deal! Thank you for passing that along. That's about how it goes on your shot, right!? ;)

Does it really matter what caliber you choose? The deer doesn’t know the difference and if you don’t train with it, it isn’t gonna matter anyway. Hell, you might now even see any deer and then it’s a moot point anyway. Besides, folks are out there using carbon and wooden sticks to kill shit.
