It’s hard to beat R22 and 23 for an all around 300 win mag powder. Mine shoots 165s up to 205s with either of them very very well. If you’re going heavy, R26 and H1000 are where it’s at. H4831 works for lots of folks too, but I wasn’t able to make it beat out R23 in my rig. For what it’s worth, 22 and 23 are very similar, with 23 being the temp stable variant. However, they aren’t just interchangeable. Work your loads up accordingly.

H1000!

In desperate need of a new 8 pound keg to load for my 300 prc and reload my wife’s 7wsm. Anyone have a new keg or access and want to make a little cash for their time? Been looking for 2 months.

My optimum loads for accuracy and velocity are;
180gn Barnes TTSX with IMR7828 for 3030fps
200gn Nosler Partition with Norma MRP for 2840fps.
I've had higher velocity with other powders but were not as accurate.

If you can't get it done with a 300 Win and a 180 gr at over 3000 fps it might not need doing. TTSX punches way above its weight due to no weight loss.

I just went through a whole load development for my 300wm and used H4350. My Tikka liked 72 grains with a Berger 185 grain VLD hunter. Shooting at 2940 +/- 5 fps. I really wanted to shoot some H1000 or some reloader 22 but I can't get it near me and don't want to pay gunbroker prices.

I've found that my 300 Win Mag really like RL22 and 180 grain Accubonds but it loves H1000 and the 200 ELD-X's better.

I've yet to see a 300 Win Mag that doesn't like RL22 and the Accubonds.

Anyone shoot the hammer bullets? I see that they are available and seems as tho lots of guys love them. I used to shoot Berger's out of my WSM and that rifle killed lots of animals. The only reason I am hesitant on using them in this Win mag is because I had a couple animals that did not have an exit with the VLD. The Animal died pretty quick, but I am really looking for a bullet that can get a little more penetration on average. I am probably over thinking this because it is a Moose hunt. If I do my job, I think just about any bullet will do.

200 eldx for me. They have gone through a moose at 100 and 600 yards, DRT. This was factory Hornady ammo in a Tikka. I would not try that with the ELD-m. I saw accubonds fail to penetrate a moose shoulder so I don’t use those any longer. Maybe a bad batch but that soured me on the bullet.

I mostly use H4831 because I have quite a bit of it. I’ve been able to get great loads worked up with the 200g partitions, accubonds and 166g hammer hunters. I use brass from ADG, Norma and nosler.

For an all around powder that works in a lot of rifles, hard to beat H4831. May not be ideal burn rate in some instances however it'll push a bullet down the bore in a lot of different cartridges.

I’m still working on a final load. But so IMR 4350 and 212 ELD-X have given me good accuracy and decent speed. I think H1000 and the 212s would work in my gun as well in limited tests.

RL 26 works well also, ELDX bullets are too soft, your best bet for Moose are Barns, Swift A Frame and Nosler Partition

Do you want accuracy or a bullet that will put a 1500 lb animal down. The ELDX is a poor choice because they just blow up on impact and loose much of there weight. Start with bullets like the Nosler Partition or better.

Great for Deer but not for big game like Elk, Moose and big Bears. The meat damage with soft bullets is well documented.Read the book by Craig Boddinton, " The perfect shot North America"

That's an interesting theory...I'll skip the book since I actually have real-world experiences from field using "soft" bullets on numerous elk. I have seen none of this meat damage you are so concerned about. Of course, we tend to put bullets where they are supposed to go so that is a pretty important factor. Having an extremely accurate bullet like the ELD-X and ELD-M (EVEN SOFTER, and what I use 99% of the time....GASP!) helps with that.

I'd go accubond for moose. H4831 will work fine for the 180 or 200.

The OP said 180 or 200 grain. I will 100% agree that a 178 eldx at 300 WM velocities is a shitty choice for a moose and most anything else unless you're trying to make a splashy mess. In the ELDx I would want to use at least a 212 for moose although I'm sure a 200 broadside shot in the lungs would work fine.
