.300 Win and Ramshot Grand

I did not handload for an number of years and just used Barnes Vortx 180 TTSX ammo. Now that I'm shooting PRS etc. (and my company needs a lot less of my attention) it's time to load for my .300 Win Mag. Some time ago I got 1# of Re26 for the job but am not going to pursue development now that it will not be available. Ramshot Grand looks like the new wonder powder so I got a pound to try. Do any of you guys have the means to Quickload Ramshot Grand with the Barnes 180 TTSX and 190 ABLR? There is no load data to go off of. I usually use H4350, H1000, Retumbo for these kind of things but velocities are about 200 FPS lower than the factory Barnes I've been hunting with for the last 9 years.

Just look at Hodgdon’s online. Looks like you could start around 75 to 77grs with both bullets and work up.

Interested to hear more on this topic. Let us know how your hand loads turn out.

I’ve been working up loads in my 7mm Rem Mag with Barnes 145 LRX and RS Grand. My Tikka measures awesome velocities with it. Averaging 3210 fps and nowhere near published max.

What do groups look like? I have a little bit to play around with

I had to dig through my notes from last year. I started load development but am still dialing it in. I loaded two groups of 6, all items identical except the primers. One group using CCI250, the other using WLRM. All bullets seated 0.055” off the lands.

CCI250 Produced:
Avg Velocity 3213 fps
2.5” group at 200 yards
ES 26.0
SD 9.19

WLRM Produced:
Avg Velocity 3234 fps
3.5” group at 200 yards
ES 43.1
SD 13.72

I have a sneaking suspicion if I dial back to the 3050-3150 fps range I might find a better node to tighten the CCI250 group to sub MOA.

78gr. 3185 avg, 12.7 SD .985"
78.5 3183 avg. 15.6 SD .737"
79gr. 3208 avg. 9.5 SD 2.1" very faint ej mark
79.5 3214 avg. 14.7 SD 1.3" faint ej mark
80gr. 3217 avg. 6.2 SD 1.2" faint ej mark
80.5 3238 avg. 9.8 SD 1.2" faint ej mark.

I'm going to try 77.5 gr as well as have made 4 different seating depths of 78.5 gr. The SD bothers me but this is 100% a hunting rifle and at the ranges I would shoot, it's only 1.5". Given the impressive velocity I feel free to experiment with lower charges to find a better combination.

Great velocities! I have similar speeds with the 7 mag. Ramshot can really produce some high numbers.

I agree with your approach around the 77.5 and 78.5 gr area. Are all of your groups at 100 yards?

I've only shot it at 100 yds. Wont bother moving out until I'm content here.
