300 RUM vs. 338WM?

I have a M70 RUM and the accuracy is bad. I hear that 338WM is the most common in Alaska so I'm assuming ammo would be the easiest to find if the airline loses your stuff. I wanted a 338RUM but got a deal on this and considered rebarrelling it.

300 RUM is what I would pick between those two.

300 Rum has probably one of the best ballistics next to the 338 lapua

I have hunted with both. For dedicated LR hunting I would go for the 300RUM, for everything under the sun hunting, I really like the 338WM. If kept at 9 pounds or so, it's a great general purpose rifle that gives a warm fuzzy when you pull the trigger on an animal

I'm with Ryan on the decision. 300RUM all day long, and as a matter of fact, taking mine out tomorrow. Are you hand loading or shooting factory ammo?
I know most favor the heavy bullets - 200gr Accubonds or 210gr Bergers but I settled with the 180gr Accubonds. My platform may differ being a Sendero but shoots under an inch. Good luck with your decision.

Only shot factory ammo. Had feeding issues too. I think it might be too long of a cartridge for controlled feeding.

Never shot anything further than 400 yards so I pick the 338 WM everytime. Being able to load up to 250 NPTs for brown bears in AK with 20 grains less powder to get things done and still shoot 225 Accubonds at 2900+ fps makes it very appealing. No need to shoot to 700+ yards where I hunt.

It shoots tiny groups with Retumbo and 215g Berger Hybrids. I would not trade or sell the rig for the world and really enjoy my time behind the rifle!

Same scope on mine. Badger Ordnance wide rings too. The thing is heavy.

If I wanted a 700 yard gun, I'd get the rum and shoot 200 gr accubonds for sure. At those ranges, I wouldn't even consider shooting a berger.

I've used a 300 RUM for the last several years as a longer range rifle. Single shot Nesika action, long throated match chamber, and a 30" Rock barrel. Spits the 200 gr Accubond out atn3250 fps and has performed extremely well out to 1180 yards on game. Performance of that bullet has been exceptional in penetration and expansion on elk and mule deer.
