300 Blackout hunting round?

Hey guys, I just picked up a CVA V2 Scout rifle 300 blackout 16.5” barrel for my kids to shoot some deer this fall with the thunder beast ultra 7 to run it suppressed.

What would you guys recommend for ammo for hunting deer with this rifle?
Thanks

I think best hunting round for supers is 110g Barnes black tipped.

Out of a 16” barrel with handloads can get about 2500fps.
Can't go wrong with this choice.

Haven't tried them yet, but it looks like the Hornady 110 CX will do really well also. Would be worth trying if you see those available.

I've killed several pigs lately with the same gun shooting 150 grain federal fusions. They work perfect!

Me and my kids have killed a bunch of deer with handloaded 125 ssts out to 200 yards. It does a good job.

What velocity are you loading your SSTs? Do you usually get exits with them?

I've used 125 BT, but not the SST. I think I'll try those as they cheaper than the 125BT and they're actually available. The BT works great but I'm getting a little tired of Nosler prices and Nosler availability.

I plan on buying the same CVA Scout to shoot subs with a can for urban deer management. I will also shoot supersonic ammo at my lease. Should make a great treestand gun.

I’ve killed quite a number of deer and two hogs with the Barnes 100gr blacktip.

If you reload, be sure to get the 110 grain bullet that was designed specifically for the 300 blackout velocities.

I killed my biggest buck to date with a 300 blk shooting the 150 grain Winchester deer season XPs at about 50 yards. He ran about 20 yards with a complete pass through. I shot another buck with my 300 blk at about 125 yards with the Hornady 190 grain sub-x load. Quartering to shot dropped him in tracks and I recovered the bullet from the off side. That being said if I were to take it out again I’d probably lean towards the lighter monolithic or bonded bullets.

Was that sub X loaded subsonic?

Nice review

I tried 110 vmaxes last year loaded to the brim to get some velocity. They worked but not well.

If I ever do it again it's the 110 barnes.

We’ve killed a pile of deer at 100-150 yd ranges with the 110 Barnes TSX in S. TX. Expands big time but stays together. Very much like a mechanical broadhead, Almost always find the bullet in hide in offside shoulder. RAR bolt guns almost exclusively.

Winchester Deer Season Extreme Point have done well for my kids. Sheds a lot of weight up front but the shank of the bullet keeps going, found under the far side hide in one of these two.

I dont own a .300 black out but a lot of my customers have good luck with the Barnes Vortex 110 gr ammo. Heard good reports from a few that I trust.
