300 Blackout for deer

I have a BIL who has lost some shot deer to the blkout.
I can look up the info sure, but I’d rather ask here.

What’s yalls max range on deer?

Im not up to date on the blkout so are there subsonic rounds and standard loads?
There are sub and supersonic loads. I personally have only hunted with the 190 grn hornady sub-x. To me, it is a max 75 yard gun. I am sure it would perform okay further, but I think it needs very precise shots to be fully effective

Know a guy who loves his BO but loses deer, hogs, and turkeys to it. Think it is the whole suppressed thing.

I have a bolt 357 mag that throws 158s and 165s at 2,000 fps (they both register at 2000 on my chrono). Put a pointed 158 gr soft point like a Fury or a .355 165 gr FTX Hornady (from 350 Legend) at 2000 fps and you're ringing 6-8 inch steel plates at 200-250 yards every time.

Whenever I hear about 300 BO, i think of lighter but sturdier constructed bullets with 357 mag level or less energies. Low recoil from both.

No knocking the cartridge, just comparing what I use.

Who's got good real world experience using the .300 Blackout for deer? I've got access to an area that's all close range shooting, nothing past 150 yards and most of it will be inside of 75. Taking the Creed or the .308 is excessive.
I went back to Hornady SST 7.62x39 for sub-200 yd hunts. I tried 300 black and the three deer I took, each had to have finishing shot. The AK round killed them within 150 yds of where I shot them. Shot placement and distance was comparable. I no longer use 300 Black. The ammo was Sig’s supersonic round. Specifically labeled for hunting, which may be the problem…

That Hornady SST load for the 7.62x39 is a great load.

I have a 300 blk to try out this year and let my kids shoot. 200 grain maker rex subsonic and 120 grain Barnes vor-tx if I want to shoot supersonic. No experience with deer myself but have a friend who’s kids have shot a lot with 200 gr subsonics.

I wouldn't use subs unless you treat it like a crossbow and keep shots under 50. Maybe it's different down south or for those shooting smaller deer, but the deer up here get big and I haven't liked how slow they are to die even with decent shots from smaller calibers.

I agree with the crossbow analogy. Don’t agree with the 50 yards. You can sight at 100 and get 130 yards. With dialing 200 or More

Have you shot deer that far? Mine is dead on out to about 70 yards. It then drops about 6 inches at 100 yards with subs. I don’t think I would shoot over 100 yards with it losing energy that quickly. Sure you could dial it out farther but how effective is it?

Red and black is first 5 rounds with 200gr Bone Frog going under 1000fps. 50 yards.

Green is next 5 rounds at 100 yards without touching anything.

By my math POI is about 3” low 50 vs 100. With my zero set wherever it’s set (probably 80ish yards haven’t checked yet).

I’m comfortable based off of these 10 rounds to shoot at standing still deer 0-100 off a good rest.

What in the heck does energy have to do with it? It’s low energy from leaving the barrel.

The factor is the drop. You have to dial every 10 yards so accurate range finding is important.

All that said, subs are a novelty imo. I use supers 99% of the time.

Oh I see. Yeah with supers that makes sense. I just have subs for my kids….I thought you had quoted someone saying you shot 200 yards with subs.
