3 or 4 blade?

I'm sure this has been discussed. What produces bigger holes and more blood for better trailing? A 3 blade fixed 1.25 inch or 4 blade fixed 1.25 inch. I've heard that a 4 blade will clog up faster than a 3 blade as the 3 blade punches a larger hole, but the 4 has another blade to slice, need some experienced hunters to shed some light in this topic. Mostly hunting deer, thanks!

I think 4 blades fly better, 1” is plenty. The bigger you go the more they’ll want to drift. A one inch hole through two lungs of any animal will ensure they don’t make it very far at all

I don’t think there is a factual answer to this question. For blood trails it’s really about shot placement, you shoot a deer in the heart or a artery, great blood. You shoot a deer high in the lungs, very little blood. I would focus on a head that will get you two holes, if you are only going to shoot short range you might as well shoot a bigger head.

it won't matter in real life. technically the 4 blade cuts more tissue (more cutting surface) but i have not seen that equate to better blood trails and certainly not faster dead critters.

the only time a 4 blade won't cut more tissue than an equal diameter 3 blade is if the 4 blade is a 2 blade with bleeder style 4 blade (bleeders being smaller than primary blades)

no need to overthink the trivial stuff, you will never know the difference between those heads in performance on game

Another member on here couldn't keep the blades in those heads while his bow case was bumping around in his truck. Chris Bee just blew the blades off of one on a whitetail. Could have been from the head striking the ground though. The tests I have seen show that they fly very well. The Lutz blades are always a plus as well. If you were worried about the blade retention system on those you could get a Slick Trick that would be very similar.

I couldn't get my tricks to shoot very well, maybe it's my bow. I hated how loud they were also. I'm hoping the g5 are quieter!

The only heads I've ever had that I could compare their 3 and 4 blade options were Wac'ems. And their 4 blade heads always hit just a bit lower at 60 and beyond. As for performance on game, I've always preferred 3 blade to 4. I've shot probably 3 or 4 animals with the 4 blade heads and none of those bled much regardless how high or low they were hit. On the other hand, I had one this year that didn't bleed much at all with a 3 blade head on a low shot......and that was a 1.5" 3 blade mechanical. So who knows. But with all of the higher lung shots I've had with 3 blade heads, they all blew a lot of blood out of their mouths so tracking wasn't an issue.

In my experience it doesn't matter how many blades they have because after they hit bone you'll probably break a few off.

You must be using some pretty flimsy heads there. I've never broken a BH blade on an animal, and I've shot through a lot of bones.

Just the strikers. My others have been great. May have been a bad batch but those heads did not do well for me at all.

You know, when they first came out......they only came with the brass washer. Well, after shooting them a few times, that washer would get nicked up from the back end of the blades and eventually would cause the heads to wobble. So I borrowed some steel washers from my Slick Tricks and put those against the blades and then the brass washer against the arrow. That worked much better, so I called G5 and told them what was going on. They told me that they used the brass washers against the blades to "cushion" them on hard hits to prevent the blades from breaking. I told them to start using tougher blades then. A few years later I noticed that they were putting steel washers in with the heads along with the brass ones. But they still use the same crappy blades.

I don't think there is a fixed blade out there that would be more accurate than a Slick Trick standard. Why are you so set on the Striker?

I've tried the slick trick in 2 different bows, they did not fly that great. Done lots of searching and they seem to be sharp and accurate so that's what I'm hoping for.

I'm a G5 fan but not of the Strikers. I've shot both the Striker and the Striker X and found the blade retention system to be absolutely terrible. You can barely assemble the things. They are sharper than snot though.

Also, the Striker X being a 4 blade 1.25 cut it wasn't nearly as forgiving to tune say as a Exodus. It is also extremely loud with the vents.

A few things to consider:
Almost every manufacturer says their broadheads fly the same as field points.
Spend more time figuring how to get in range of elk, deer, etc for the shot and don’t worry about a slight whistle that a broadhead makes for the one second or less that it’s in the air after you shoot.
Most important- If your bow is properly tuned you will likely notice very little difference, if any, between any types of broadheads and field points of the same weight.
