28 nosler custom build just arrived

Hey I just wanted to share some info on the Nosler LR Accubonds. These are not anywhere near the same as an Accubond. Highly explosive at high speed. I'm shooting a 26 Nosler and used 142 gr factory on Kodiak this last February. At 400 yards there was a total explosion under the skin with no penetration. Luckily he spun at me and I hit him in the brisket headed down hill.

If you are shooting 700 yards and up you might be fine. But an impact anywhere near 3000fps is not good. I have switched to Partition 140, tried and true but not nearly as efficient.

I read another post on here about the same thing on a dall sheep, so I fired some into wet cardboard, newspaper, etc.

This is what it looked like. I don't know what they bond them with but I'm not too impressed. If not for a lucky second chance I would have lost my goat. Please test these before using it on your dream hunt. Good luck.

I have not tried the lr accubond , but I can't see a reason I would switch from the 195 Berger on my rig I'm very pleased but thanks for the info some may find it useful , I had a buddy try some but he went with the Berger too the bc is so high , I can say they kill quickly if I do my part

Yeah I have a buddy here in Alaska who shot everything from brown bear to bison last year with Berger. Swears by them.

The post about the 6.5 lrab and it's bad performance was on my sheep thread. We had the same experience as you, bad.

Just as you stated it seemed as though the bullet wasn't bonded, as it exploded on contact and that was even at 460 yards out of a 6.5x55 swede. So the bad penetration occurred at low speeds as well. I don't know but maybe they had a bad run through the factory and some came through un-bonded. That being said I don't see myself using any lrab's in the future as my confidence is not very high with them.

With that extended well bottom metal can you fit and extra bullet in there? 4 vs 3 with normal bottom metal?

no the wyatts box is center feed single stack it feeds better

Weird I've had awesome results with the 129 out of a creedmoor from 50 To 450. Maybe the 26 is just to hot. Killed lots of deer and hogs with them.

I had issues with the 115vld blowing up on impact with no penetration in my 257wby. Over 3300-3400 MZ was bad,
slowed them down to 3200-and no more issues.

I killed my bull this year at 57 yards with a 26 nosler. 142 ABLR. Front shot. Never moved. Found rest of bullet in back ham. Dead instantly.

Muley never moved at 120.

Whitetail rolled 2 times on flat ground with the 129 ABLR at 300.

Another muley at 350. 142 ABLR. Went 30 yards.

Just curious if you ever tried the N570 in your 28 Nosler. I have my 28 back from the smith and am having a hard time finding a load for it using the N570. Any insight would definitely be appreciated.

Thank you!!! I was really hoping you would respond. I've been chasing my tail with my long throated 28. I think I've got it figured out. There is a loose nut behind the gun. My chronograph is too close, and I'm probably pushing them too hard. Thanks again

Thanks , I'm still playing with loads , time to head to the mnts now so I will play around with it after season got a .013 " group at 3033 fps but it's a little closer to the lands than I would prefer , might try some reloader when I get back

If you got a .013" group then you have a world record capable rifle! And for all the 28's I've built, 3030-3065fps is the most consistent and best accuracy node. I've smoked brass in as little as 3 firings pushing over 3100 fps and my reamer is long throated for the 195's. Make sure an anneal, that Nosler brass likes to work harden on the necks and you'll see velocity spikes. Good looking rig, it's got all the right parts to be a shooter!
