For those of you that have toyed around with this caliber, what are your thoughts? Looking to possibly pick up a Sako Finnlight in 270 wsm. I really like the ballistics of this cartridge on paper. Looks to shoot like a laser beam. Planning to use this round for open country antelope, MD, and possibly for elk hunting. I was stuck on a 300 wsm awhile ago till I started looking into the 270 wsm.

I've had a 300 and a 270 WSM. Both great rounds. The 300 is more capable out past 600 unless you're running the Matrix 165 or 175's.

I load IMR 4350 with 140 Acubonds with good accuracy and very dead critters. I've been playing around with Retumbo with some potential.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I am looking to keep it at and under 500 yards up to elk sized game. If I am not mistaken, it seems like the 270wsm carries plenty of energy out there for that.
140 accubonds is what I keep hearing the best reports on with this cartridge.

I like it and the .300WSM a lot and would be hard pressed to pick either over the other. The .270WSM is likely the best cartridge on the WSM case IMHO. RL17 generally gives great results.

I had feeding issues with a push to feed 270WSM, IMHO the 300WSM is a better choice. I have a 270WSM that my wife likes in a Winny Extreme Weather.

I have the 270 wsm. The 140 accubonds shoot very well in mine. So does the 130 bergers and a 130 hornday. All with 4831 sc.

I like the 270WSM a lot and it has served me well. I have not ever owned or shot a 300WSM so I don't have much for you there. 150g Bergers and a stiff dose of Retumbo was what I settled on for my Tikka.

I have a Sako 75 Finnlight in the 270 WSM that I absolutely love and I can't say enough good about it. It's been an accurate shooter right out of the box, a little over 2000 rounds through it and I've put some miles on it. A couple black bears, a few coyotes and 7 sheep, are all I've taken with it though but other than one bear were all one shot kills. I've found that 66g of RL-22 under a 140g TSX to be what it likes best but in all honesty it's the only bullet I've hand loaded for it. I've shot maybe 3 boxes of factory ammo through it but found that it did real well with the 140g Accubonds. If I had one complaint it would be the detachable box magazine which the 85 seems to address the problem but duct tape works just as well.

I don't have any trouble with my Sako 75 and the detachable mag. But yes Duct Tape will fix it in a pinch.

Great feedback guys. The more research I do, the more I really like this caliber. What scope are you using on that finnlight rowdy? I really like that the detachable mag on the finnlight has to be pushed in before you can release it. Nice feature imo.

The scope is just a 3-9 Vxii, pretty vanilla but the scope has taken a beating and still shoots true. Sent it in once to have the end of the objective fixed due to being bent, did it again but folded it up real nice in a pretty good fall. It never affected glass or point of impact so it's mostly just a cosmetic issue as far I can see, that was 4 seasons ago.

I never had any trouble with my detachable mag either for quite a spell then on one hunt she dropped twice. The first time I noticed pretty quick, the second time I back tracked about 100 yards. If it happens again then it was meant to be cause I keep it duct taped pretty well.399689_3793917851120_678524044_n.jpg

Thanks, he's a DIY Alaska ram I took in 2012. I'd been drooling over the Sako 75 for while when my wife surprised me with it as a gift, I think now if she'd have known how many days I spent afield with it she might not have done it. Anyway I'm glad she did its been a great tool.
