270 Win with Sierra 140 gr Gamechanger

Does anyone have any advice for either the Barnes LRX 129gr or the Hornady ELDX 145gr in the 270Win? I'm not sure which to try next. I tried the Barnes in my last 270 but was never able to get them to group. The ELDX weren't on the market back then so I've never loaded with them. I am going to try to find some RS Hunter to try as well instead of the H4831sc. Thanks.

I load the 129gr lrx over H4350. .2grains over max at book COL. This is with Nosler brass and REM primers. Start low and work up

this is what worked for me in my rifle. as always, start low and check OAL but both loads are middle of book loads.

I am currently working on Barnes 129 lrx and 110 ttsx for my 270. Nosler brass and ginex or fed match primers (both a close but ginex is bit better)

As for the Barnes bullets grouping. If you shoot copper on top of a barrel that has been shooting lead core bullets the going theme is the don’t agree with that fowling already in the barrel. Needs to be cleaned completely.

I myself never tested it and cleaned them before test the loads, BUT, in my gun I needed to put 15ish rounds down the barrel before they would become sub moa. They would continue to shrink to about round 20-25 and then shoot consistent. Not sure if this happens to all but yes it’s an expensive fowling.

However, after that it shoots lights out. The lrx does .5 groups on 56grain of h4350 (little over book) and I did a ladder test with the 110 with h4350 and have 2 nodes to test.

I plan to just run dry patches to get most of the carbon out and just run those loads in the gun if accuracy stays.

Curious novice. Both of those OALs are above SAAMI. How did you determine they're safe?

that saami coal is based upon bullets that were common 100 years ago when it was designed. The ogive on modern bullets is much longer. Generally if it’s not jammed in the lands, probably not increasing pressure enough to matter.

I shoot 55 gr of IMR4831 with 140 ABs and it works extremely well in my Rem 700. There is so little difference between H4831 and the IMR you should be able to find a load that works for you with the GKs. I would use the sc if I could get it for its better metering flow.

I'm working on ELD-X with H4831sc. Trying the Satterlee method- sort of. I shoot more test rounds and stick to .2 grain increases. I appear to have found "nodes" at 58.8 grains and 58.2. My results from 58.6 to 59.0 were 2015, 2017, and 2015. From 57.8 to 58.4, I got 3003, 2991, 2993, and 3003. COL is 3.330. I'm shooting a CVA Cascade with a 24" barrel.

I got black around the primer at 59.4 grains and stopped there.

I don’t know what you’re asking about with another standard. I’ve always just used the hornady COAL tool for measuring to lands but if you Google “Alex wheeler measure to lands” there are other methods.

Hi. I’m planning to load some Sierra 140 gr Gamechangers for my 270 Win. I am using Hornady brass and Federal 210M primers. I’m trying to figure out which powder to use. My local store has H4831SC and N560. I’ve used H4831 (not the SC version) in my other 270 Win with good results with 130 gr Bergers. Based on the attached chart, I’m liking the potential extra speed of the N560. Any thoughts or guidance from those with experience loading for the 270? I’ve been looking for Reloader 17 with no luck…

Always get good results with the 4831 with the 270s I have. No reason to try other powders for me.
