270 win. Swift A-Frame Load

I am trying to develop a 150 Gr Swift A-frame load for a Sako AV .270 win. I tried H4350 but have not yet produced adequate results. Does anyone have any suggestions? With the component shortages, I am looking for any shortcut that I can take. I have a good variety of powders on hand, but not all in great quantities. I only have a limited supply of the bullets and will be going on a bear hunt this spring.

Just a suggestion, but you may want to try the 140 Accubonds or Barnes TTSX.. They are both great bullets and seem to be available.. I load them with several powders, but my rifles/loads seems to like 4831 or 4831SC if you can find it..

If you can find some RL-22 I'd try that with the 150's. Or try the 130gr Scirocco's with your H4350.

I tried loading 150's for a buddy years ago and it just didn't work. In the past couple of years 140 TTSX has been the shit. Its a long projectile with lots of bore contact. Once Barnes invented the triple shock, it became a game changer.

I had good luck with h4831sc using 150 partitions. The h4350 was ok but much better suited to the 130g bullets in my experience.

I don't have an A-frame load to recommend but you don't need A-frames for black bear, and I assume you are not going after griz with a .270. 140 gr Accubonds would be a great choice. GKs would be fine too. My mid-80s Rem 700 BDL shoots 140 gr AB over 55 gr of IMR4831 consistently sub .75 MOA.

What do you mean by inadequate results and what type of bear hunt. For ex, if baited sub moa is not critical. As to other powders, rl22, h4831 are good to start with 150s. Lots of others will work with 4350 on fast side to probably h1000 on slow side

Find a way to get some RL-26 if you can. It’s magic for the ol’ 270win. I’m getting just over 1/2” groups at 3100fps with 150gr AccuBonds from my Sako a7, and I don’t even have much time into development.

I have a Sako 270 Win and have worked up the following load for 150 gr Nosler Partitions. The Nosler's overall length is 1.250. It looks like the A-frame is 1.230. Pretty similar. I have tried a number of powders through the years for 270 Win and I keep coming back to H4831. It just works for 130-150gr bullets. This load is close to the top end of the chart so I would start low and work up. I hope this helps.

With heavies I've had really poor luck with h/i4350 in my 270s. I've had kickass luck with 7828ssc but didn;t like the temp sensitivity. Now I'm a H4831sc guy: yeah it doesn;t give you the best velocities but damn it's hard to beat the consistency and accuracy. I've never had a load fail by choosing the tightest SD charge and futzing with seating depth until it goes.
